Thoughts on Get Out

So I just saw Get Out much later than I should have.

Horror isn't my main genre, but I like some of it. I've never been scared. I've felt second-hand fear in a way, but never shaking terror. I also acted in a short horror film(maybe even coming to film festivals near you!). So that's my personal relationship with horror thus far. I like some of it, but more for art/thematic elements than actual horror.

Get Out was on a whole different level. Even though parts of it were meant to be humorous, I was terrified the whole time. I related to the protagonist and I related to the subject matter. I actually cried both during and after the movie. All because it was real/relatable compared to what I'd seen in the past. I love that it was scary. It was new. It was terrifying. What a ride.

Anyone else have feelings?

I thought it was ok.

More like an episode of twilight zone or black mirror... horror scary terrifiyng are not words I'd use to describe it..

I liked it and was engaged and intrigued.

Obviously, there was some social commentary going on...in real life I'm sorry to say I think he would have been arrested, but so would a white guy.. only survivor is an obvious suspect no matter who you are...

Good movie.

I believe I found it scarier than other movies because I don't think I've seen many truly scary movies. Going back on the movies I have seen, they're all very soft spooky.

Now to test it out by finding some other really scary movies.

Have you seen "The Fourth Kind"?

The Fourth Kind is the only, and I mean only horror or sci-fi movie, that has ever really scared me-to death.

Nothing, even The Exorcist, scared me one degree. The Fourth Kind was so believable, well edited and well acted that I was completely frightened for days.

in my little opinion it was good but just missed the chance of being great, like Krampus, i really enjoyed it but both for me are missing that "thing" to elevate them to great.
the social commentary was interesting and fresh, but the "horror" elements were very by the book, tropes galore basically, if like me you've seen a few hundred horror movies, you can see things coming from a mile away.
Still, it's really worth a watch, horror was been a fairly stale genere for a while now, so any new prospectives are very welcome

Just watched it last night again, together with some other UFO movies. Because that´s what the Fourth Kind is for me, a UFO/Abduction movie.

I am just wondering why so less people know that movie, because it´s really a good movie, better than all that heartless CGI-nonstop shootings and explosions movies without a good storyline, without shocker moments and stuff.

Me too. I guess it's because I had an idea of what the movie was referencing, and it's somewhat of a horrifying thought. Heh. It was essentially based on the whole "Alien descent," pissed off "creators," ideology.
edit on 8-3-2017 by SpeakerofTruth because: (no reason given)
