‘She was demonized’: Nicaraguan woman dies after being thrown into fire in exorcism ritual

So there was this exorcism taking place in Nicaragua, which is already a concerning event since these things are usually used to punish the mentally ill, and the congregation decided to build a fire for the lady. Afterward, they picked her up and threw her on.

A 25-year-old woman needed healing, and a church leader claimed to have, through a divine revelation, instructions to build the fire to cure her. They stripped the woman naked, tied up her hands and feet and hurled her into the flames, Nicaraguan police said. She was consumed by the fire and suffered first and second degree burns over 80 percent of her body.

As you can see, the poor lady suffered burns all over her body. Her poor teenage sister would find her and get her to the hospital where she will die.

The woman, Vilma Trujillo Garcia, was then left in a ravine near the banks of a river, where her 15-year-old sister found her nearly nine hours later, according to local media. She was taken to a hospital in Managua, the nation’s capital, and remained in critical condition for several days before dying early Tuesday, Vilma González, a spokeswoman for Nicaraguan national police, said in a news conference.

And THEN to make matters worse, the scum bag preacher had the audacity to say that she fell on the fire by herself after being depossessed.

Police arrested Juan Gregorio Rocha Romero, the church’s evangelical pastor; Esneyda del Socorro Orozco, the church leader; and three other people in connection with the Feb. 21 attack. Speaking to local press, the pastor denied that he had burned the woman, saying that she decided to burn herself because “she was demonized,” he said, adding that she had fallen into the fire after a demon had been expelled from her body.

Keep in mind, this girl was stripped naked and had her hands and feet bound then she suffered burns on 80% of her body, but SOMEHOW she just fell on the fire.

There were a variety of theories on why she was singled out, none of them substantiated by authorities: That she was mentally ill, that she had committed adultery and that she had attacked people with a machete.

I'm going to guess it was the first one. Mental illness and religious fervor tend not to mix well together. Plus it explains the machete attack.

Disgusting all around. I hope this pastor gets whats coming to him. Situations like this though are why I don't like the Christian exorcism movement. It's based on hearsay and misunderstanding then you just apply any religious sounding ceremony to the situation (usually involving pain, starvation, or torture) until the person complies with you. We need to leave superstition like this behind and stop treating mental illness like demon possession.

Things probably aren't over for this family either:

Herenia Amaya, a women’s rights advocate who has been advising the woman’s family, told Univision that Trujillo Garcia presented “mental health problems,” prompting the pastor and congregation to take her to the church.

Particularly in remote areas of the country lacking in government leadership, Amaya said, “pastors and religious leaders dominate the community with apocalyptic ideologies that the devil will come.” She added that the woman’s family now feels unsafe, fearing that the pastor’s community will retaliate against his detention.

In situations like this, I would like to see the same thing happen to the perpetrators. Tie them up and throw them on a fire.

unfortunately people who live in poorer countries believe working hard is the only way to get rich quick or to at least make enough to live.

most of them don't want an education, thinking it's for dumb lazy people.

if only they were motivated by their parents to go to school.. less of these tortures would happen.

Rip for the lady and may her sister find peace to forgive and forget those cruel people.

The article mentioned that this lady lived in a part of the country that was free of government control. It is likely she lives in a fundamentalist Christian community and the only education she received was of the fundamentalist variety. This is just an assumption on my part, but going by how there were service members complicit in this crime it may also reason this community could have been a cult.

This was not an exorcism.

It is a shame that both the OP and press do not know the difference between an exorcism and torture. To blame a religion is ridiculous and stupid..... nothing more than spreading hate.

This was murder and nothing more.

The woman was more than likely mentally disturbed.

This shows me that Christians can be just as nasty as Muslims and their religion is no better.

This is a very common occurrence in Christian communities in third-world nations.

That's why it gets so frustrating when Christians act like Islam is unique because of the atrocities caused in its name. They don't realize the problem is third-world theocratic cultures, regardless of the religion.

Sometimes I wonder if you are possessed by a demon because you have done what a demon would suggest you to do.

1) Search for rare world event where things go extreme.
2) Make sure Christianity is involved.
3) Paint a really bad picture for all Christians worldwide.
4) Then the Nazi's shout 'hooray' and gas them all - AGAIN !!!

Mental illness and demonic possession do go hand-in-hand, especially when one can argue face-to-face, speaking Latin, with a 30ft tall, 12ft wide low frequency raphah demon, whilst enduring a minor seizure, allowing the memory to still function and remember everything spoken.

WIN! That is so correct. It isn't the religion. It's the theocratic nature of the government that does this. Religion's power needs to be stunted and not be given control of a government. I still have problems with things they do, but at least they have to work within the laws and against secular ideas to get their ideas implemented.

It's not a rare occurrence. Witchcraft is punishable by death in many backwater Christian nations. Often, the people themselves will carry out the sentence, knowing they will be unlikely to face any sort of repercussions.

Girls in Africa get bottles broken in their vaginas, tires full of gasoline stuck around their necks and ignited... all because somebody thought their mother was a witch or that she looked at somebody funny, or even worse, they were peacefully practicing their religion of witchcraft.

No need to because the demon will do that anyway when your meat-suit time is up.

Cannot wait for Trump to get a fatal shot to the head only to get up and state that he met God and got sent back to rule over the world.

BTW, the antichrist has 666 alters (split personalities) in him. So when Trump comes back to life, probably on Sept 23rd 2017, who will have the balls to do an exorcism on that entity. ?

Should be fun to watch as the luke warm Christians believe he is the real Christ Messiah.
