Back from the other side [YJA2017]

How long ago did it happen?

Minutes?
Hours?
Weeks?
Years?

Have I always been here? I can't remember.

There's something vaguely familiar and calming in the darkness.

"I'm getting closer now." I think to myself as it echoes in my mind.

MY mind?!

"I'm almost there." I think to myself as it rebounds like a ball through my thoughts.

MY thoughts?!

As I get closer, I search through the blackness to find anything I recognize.

I SEE SOMETHING

My eyes lock onto this speck in the distance. It gets bigger and closer and bigger still.

Finally, I recognize something. I see....myself. I'm looking at myself on the other side, looking at myself. Like two mirrors reflecting off of each other into infinity.

It looks.....
I remember.....
Is that...
Where?
When?
Who?

...................

I try to hold onto my thoughts, but they slowly slip away.

A wave washes over me as I realize that I finally know what's coming.

.....

I wake up.

"Was that a dream?"
"Was that real?"
"Wait! Where am I?"

I look around, but I recognize nothing. All I see are concerned, unfamiliar faces staring down at me.

I feel like I want to read more, part two...

It was so good and had me thinking of all sorts of possible scenarios.

Good luck to you! I am enjoying reading everyone's take on the theme and where it is taking them.

Oh my...

So much said with so few words. The ending left me
expecting more. At least the unfamiliar faces were
concerned. Could have been worse.
