Why give me the counsel that I should make threads about it when I regularly weigh in on threads that address the subject, and address it in the most absurd terms?

And, let's be honest here. Do either of us believe that political threads on ATS are going to make a difference in the world?

I fought that battle for almost four years here. I advocated for truth, for evidence, for rationality.

I didn't change one person's mind that I know of.

That's what I don't get with some folks ... I haven't seen ANYONE here make a claim like that. Nor have I seen anyone say that if you believe that our laws should be followed that makes you racist.

It really might change a persons mind. It might give a different view. It might make it easier for some of us to defend "snowflake dems" as not being all snowflake dems and call out our own respective party line towers when they broad brush some of you... and likewise. We have to be the controllers of the rhetoric and control our parrots.
Youre actually typing a lot different than you used to. I truly WANT us all to merge together as Americans but hold our own beliefs and do what we feel is in the best interest of the country... I truly do. Even if we dont agree.. we can find ground that we DO agree on. We can exchange ideas and work together. Yes, I dream of it. LOL! There are several dems on here I thought were wackadoodle that really arent, it was election hysteria which effected many. LOL! We MUST have you all call out your crap folks and the right MUST call out theirs. ALL of us individually must disavow those who claim an ideology, yet have ulterior motives. Im a centrist. In a rotten mood Im imperialistic. So what? I know I love my fellow countrymen regardless of their views.. and hope for a more uninted front to squash all radical , violent, divisive, bs.. and the people who keep it going. The America I grew up in advocated differences. We took great pleasure, my Republican friends and I in high school and college, debating with each other. Sometimes, it got heated, sure ... but almost always, at the end, we could come back together and say, well, you've got a totally different opinion than I do, but I respect your right to have it.

We were proud to be different, but we were more proud to be the same: Americans.

Fast forward 35 years and that is mostly gone completely from society. I have theories about why and how, but that really doesn't matter at this point. It's our reality. What are we going to do about lt?

Yes, after the last several years here, I had become a hardened partisan with the worst of them.

When you see vapid insult after vapid insult presented as reasonable debate, you get tired of it. You start using the buzz-words and catch-phrases too. And if you're naturally competitive like me, you do it with impunity.

Let's stop thinking in terms of "our folks" and "your folks" ... let' start thinking about simply being Americans again.

At the end of the day, that, along with dealing honestly and accurately with each other, is all that matters in my mind.
