I dont want to poopoo your quest for paranormal phenomenon.. hell, I wasted yrs of my life and lots of money on it. Even researched Rose Hall in Jamaica and all over. Ive fallen asleep in basements with "demonic portals" and told a lady in a trailer with a kid with ADD he wasnt possessed, but the bad smells were due to her not picking up dog crap and she needed to take her kid to a psychiatrist. Im an asshole, but a realist however that fits in with the paranormal.. LOL! In most cases, paranormal or unexplanable phenomenon is all around, we just dont notice it. One you start noticing... youll see it. I bought this house because it had a history in town. I LOOOVE it. I also have spent the past years debunking and recreating phenomenon... just to see how it could be mistaken. HONESTLY mistaken. SO much is. Just keep at it.. and if your mond is open.. open it MORE.

No way it is vibration. A music box like that doesn't vibrate to the point of the object moving like that. It probably is moving because the item is haunted and something is attached to the object. Get a K2 meter and check for electromagnetic spikes when it moves. Do you know anything about the history of the box that moves? Things like antiques and other items like this are not too uncommon as some people think in having a spirit attached to it. It doesn't seem like whatever it is, -is bad unless you are having other activity happen that is bad. Would love to hear more about these boxes, they are really cool

The newest one came from a box lot from an auction my brother went to. The nightstand is simply a lapdesk my husband bought for me brand new many years ago from Bombay Company. The shelf is a hand me down from my sister. There are only paper stuff in the lapdesk. The only metal in it is a drum key.

It is not flat. it is a lap desk. I realize this may seem to explaim things, but what it does not account for is the stopping and starting randomly and it does not account for the responses to my words.

Put together a makeshift ouija board. See if you can get some 'yes' or 'no' answers based on movement etc.

It can be as simple as drawing some lines or putting down some post-it notes on the desk.

Weird.
The stein or the rocks never move when they were on the table in the videos.
If there was some type of vibration, you would think everything would move.

Not at all. It would depend on the contact surface for both. If you had something with small, hard, pointy feet, it's much more likely to move with vibration than something with, say, felt on the bottom.

It will also be more likely to move if the weight isn't evenly distributed, or if the pointy feet aren't quite vertical.

In fact, I'd say seeing some objects move and others not under vibration would be something I'd expect to see.

I don't want to do a ouija board type thing... I've heard bad stuff about that./

Indeed. It does open up strange doors. I wouldn't do it myself.

I just took a chance that you might be the type to try.

I would stop trying to talk to them then...since you're already ouija'ing if you do.

Have you tried putting them on the floor, other surfaces and places to see if they move there as well?

Firstly, I'd assume that the lap-desk is flat at the back (where the stein is) and angles forward slightly at the hinge. This means that if there were vibration, it would cause anything on the angled surface to move towards the 'camera'.

The surface appears to be french-polished wood and I assume would be quite a smooth finish and the legs of the music boxes metallic, probably brass.

There are noises that are below our range of hearing, infrasonics. It is possible that there is a source of these low frequency sounds nearby, say a washing machine or fan, and they could be causing just enough vibration to promote movement.

The irregularities of traction and infrasound volume could account for the variability of the movement. I note that the right hand music box moves faster (in general) than the older one. I wonder if the same thing occurs if the music boxes are swapped left to right?

Also, these type of music boxes usually use a rotating vane to regulate the mechanical speed of the mechanism. The air drag created limits how fast it 'unwinds' this means that an air stream and vibration is created in the mechanism itself when it plays but as the movement still happens when neither are playing, I don't think that it tells the whole story.

I don't think we are looking at anything supernatural, just an entirely natural explanation as with the Egyptian statuette that recently was observed to 'move by itself' and became a YouTube hit.

As to why the movement isn't even, cymatics:

Yes to all of what you said plus Bedlam. This type of movement is exactly what you'd expect from vibration and not a perfectly level surface along with the friction variable. When something is moved by a force not able to be explained by conventional means, at least in my experience, it gets from point A to point B in a big hurry.

What about checking for vibration?

Put some grains of rice or whatever's suitable, onto the table, near the boxes, and film the result.
I'd like to see a second camera filming under the table too if poss.

If theres no sign of vibration im interested. Unusually slow if paranormal. Almost waiting to see the boxes shoot across at you!

Do you know the history on he music boxes or box, although they look new/non antique(guessing?, Also, the table and home, may have something to do with it paranormally speaking. Non paranormal wise, looks to be something as others are mentioning the vibrations along with the table itself is causing the movement.

There is nothing in the room like a fan or whatever that stirs the air or vibrates. The windows aren't open. The furnace is off. Why do they stop and start? Why did it stop moving when I said something about it not happening until I brought the second one in the house. For that matter, why did it start only when the second one came in the house? The first one I've had about a year and a half, sitting on that desk and it's never moved. This is the thing that confuses me.

If you watch the second video, you'll see that it doesn't have to be on the right side to move faster. I don't know if you've watched all the vids. I was experimenting with weight.

They both came from auctions in box lots, but separately at different times. No idea about the history, they are made in Japan. The lapdesk a gift many years ago, bought new. The shelf under it used to be my sister's. We have experienced other paranormal things in this house, as well as all our lives in other houses also.

This was my first instinct. I'd like to see if they move on other surfaces such as a kitchen counter or dining table etc.

We won't. We won't see under that hinged table top, or whats behind the wall its against.
Obviously a vibration.

A bowl of water setting there would probably show it.

I have no idea what that noise is. I didn't hear it before. Now I was able to turn my sound up and really listen. There was nothing on in the house. No TV or radio. Nothing. And windows were closed.

I could have sworn you asked about it upside down. Well I did do it upside down though. And now I've put them on other surfaces and they do not move.
