IRS Doesn't Tell 1 Million Taxpayers That Illegals Stole Their Social Security Numbers

The IRS has discovered more than 1 million Americans whose Social Security numbers were stolen by illegal immigrants, but officials never bothered to tell the taxpayers themselves, the agency’s inspector general said in a withering new report released Tuesday. Investigators first alerted the IRS to the problem five years ago, but it’s still not fixed, the inspector general said, and a pilot program meant to test a solution was canceled — and fell woefully short anyway.

5 years is inexcusable, come on man!

I wonder if this may sway the minds of all of the people who are against said proposed immigration plans? Who knows?

As a result, most taxpayers don’t learn that their identities have been stolen and their Social Security files may be screwed up. “Taxpayers identified as victims of employment-related identity theft are not notified,” the inspector general said.

It really makes you wonder about everything else that goes on behind the curtains.

Professor Doom just did a video on this. Why wouldn't the victim be notified?

Realistically, it's pretty scary that they just let something like this fall through the cracks.

Here illegally?

You need a social security number to work, open an account, etc.

The ONLY way to get it is to steal it.

Horror stories are told every day about identity theft. Sometimes it is a thousand times worse than someone breaking into your home and stealing your valuables.

BUILD THAT WALL! Deport all illegals starting with the criminal element.

It may sound harsh, but sometimes cutting out the cancer is painful. Keeping it in remission is an ongoing process.

ETA: Have you ever been in an IRS office in a major metropolitan area. Start there with your investigation.

To notify would mean that revenue stream, a.k.a. taxes resultant of the theft, would be shut down.

Because that would involve acknowledging that there is a problem, with illegals.

Actually, there are loopholes, which I have yet to see Trump address, and that's disappointing. 1099 contract labor doesn't need to be Everified, except on federal jobs. Contract labor is epidemic in the construction industry, and that is how so many illegals continue to work. Make Everifying contract labor mandatory

Well, taxation is theft, identity theft is theft. I guess two wrongs do make a right.

Exactly. That's why we need to deport illegal aliens in this country. Get them out of here!

Jose has all the legal documentation. He's legit. You contract him to do such-and-such a job. You've done it right. You checked his legal status and determined he is on the up-and-up. He starts the work you contracted him to do.

Who are these 50 men he has "hired" to work for him, however? Are they being paid $8.00/hr. under the table? Sure they are. He may hire a few legits to cover his ass, but, the majority are illegal labor.

You know, temp agencies are terrible about this.

We hired a bunch of temps, the agency is responsible for background checks. They supposedly all passed. When the time came to end the temporary status and bring them into the company, five people quit knowing they couldn't pass our background check.

Temp agencies are a scourge.

Sounds like the IRS has known about this for a while and is hiding the problem. They didn't even persue people who stole others identity and then the people who's identity was stolen have to go through all kinds of legal things because someone took their refund. There was a news broadcast by a lady at the top of the IRS and they said that it was easier to just leave these thieves get away with it than to pursue putting them in jail. So another words she informed the crooks they won't get prosecuted.

The head of the IRS said how much it was that the thieves got away with, billions, but that they had made improvements and cut the amount down in half from the year before. They just delayed people's refunds a while.

This is quite a pickle.

Will this be Bush's fault somehow?

Or will it be Obama's fault?

Or, just because of the current state of things, will it be blamed on Trump even though he's only been in office a month?

We use temp agencies for certain things. Cleaning the job site up. Unloading trucks full of equipment and material. Stuff like that. It's usually full of people they get sent home real quick. Most of them were just looking for pay for the day. What I have found is that convicted felons that work for them work extra hard. They want to come back the next day if they can. They have a hard time finding employment. I've been in the construction business for 28 years now. I can tell you that 20 years ago about half the construction industry was full of people that had criminal records. Not murderers and rapists of course but people that have screwed up at some point in their life. Construction industry is totally different now. I don't know what these people do for a living anymore besides temp work. I think it's a shame that they can't get a job working construction anymore.

Wouldn't this also affect co-signers of the deceased?
