"democracy is the worst form of Government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."

-Winston Churchill

He is right. Democracy sucks. You either have mob rule or in the case of the UK and USA parties hijack it under the influence a few wealthy and elite individuals. Only those who shouldn’t get power, the arrogant, most ego driven, most ruthless, the psychopathic and the best liars succeed in politics which results in # candidates that don’t actually have the peoples benefit in mind or have their own agenda. Big money and lobbying mean that corporations and banks get there grubby claws in.
Left or right the candidates suck. What ever happened you end up with a choice between a douche and a giant turd.

Problem is all the other tried and tested governments have failed as well and worse. Nobody wants dictator ship or a monarchy.

So what else can be tried?

My idea would be a republic with two houses, one parted voted in by the people. But the members are not voted. Instead every 5 years they are picked by random like a jury, the number depending on the size of the country. Only rule is they have to be a born citizen and not a have a criminal record. Preferably you would pick a random person from each area.
They have a constitution they must follow (if they don’t they get removed).

Ok that idea probably sucks (does it suck worse than what we in the west have now?).

Anyone got any other ideas to share? This thread is just to throw ideas out?

Mankind put a man on the moon, surely it can come up with a system of goverment that works.....or at least a improvemnt of the crap turdsanwiches we are stuck with....?

Why do you hate criminals and immigrants?

I can almost predict that response now. So I'll toss it out and let you chew on it.

I authored a thread on this very subject not long ago

Unfortunately, no-one seemed to have an answer

I don't know about not having a criminal record, come on if pc plod probably was around and saw what you did at points etc.......

Also it would be a form of slavery I think if you had no way of saying I don't fancy that.

Term limits. And smaller government period.

If you limit the scope of what government can do you limit the chances of it being bought.

True.

But you want to remove the criminal elements out of politics.

As for slavery? Allow a way to opt out.

I like small goverment.

Problem is goverment is a like a cancer....it grows. You can cut it back but it will still grow back.

The technology isn't there yet, but what about a government run by an AI and robots?

If humans can't do the governing give the governing to someone else who can.

Who programs the AI?

What if the AI decides to cull half of humanity?

A AI can represent the wishes of the people.

Well you may as well crown George Soros as emperor of the world and be done with it

Having a beer fueled bust up at 18 due to hormones and several gallons of the good stuff shouldn't really stop you a decade later and not touched a drop from looking for a vote.

Well I think that criminal records need a huge overhaul. But that another thread.

That's definitely a new paradigm
Many people would be quite freaked at such a notion.

We'll probably end up there one day...

You won't get anything new until people change.

We aren't able to have any other types of economies because we are inherently corrupt, greedy, selfish, nasty little primates.

And to prove it, I will fling poo at the next person who posts beneath me.

This is why government has to remain small and politicians power checked from multiple angles. People are inherently bad and will abuse power, especially those who are drawn to public life.

Term limits would probably fix 80% of the problems we have with government. We also need massive tax reform so the tax code can't be used to pay back favors.

We'll never see term limits because the people that are required to vote for term limits would never do so.

"A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine."
-Thomas Jefferson

“Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!”
- Benjamin Franklin

“Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself.”

-John Adams

“have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.”

-James Madison

Well these are some of the United States founders thoughts on democracy.

I also think many Greeks where not fond of democracy in Athens because of the Mob Rule of the public.

a bystander inquired of Franklin: "Well, Doctor, what have we got a Republic or a Monarchy?

Franklin replied, "A Republic, if you can keep it."

I know... constitutional convention maybe? We all know the problem is these politicians who have basically made a career out of Washington doling out favors to lobbyists and other special interest. The only other alternative is an educated populace holding politicians accountable but that seems even more unlikely.

I also briefly considered a catacrocy, a government run by cats, but quickly dismissed it as being impractical.

Power corrupts, but in truth in the UK at least, I don't think there is political criminality as a norm. I know local councillers, parish councilers and my MP. I can say that all work for a cause where they look at the betterment of society. They may have their own political slant, worldview, or set of beliefs, but none are corrupt or criminal.

Democracy is flawed because people are flawed. We make poor decsions and choices. We also don't all think in the same way, or are forced to hold the same opinions as in some countries.

Some people like wind farms, while I am tempted to blow them up as an affront to the countryside, yet we may all agree that renewable energy is better; unless you are a coal miner, or work on oil rigs.

- Democracy means that some people will not be happy, but will be be free to complain and attempt to change things.
- In an autocracy, most people will be unhappy, but unable to say so.

I am glad that I live in a democracy, with all its flaws.
