What entities can have their own police force and what their powers are vary from state to state. Generally speaking Hospitals, Universities are allowed their own police. Some larger event venues, like amusement parks, can as well. Some states give expanded authority to security officers for enforcement of certain crimes while being required to use local police for the other crimes.

I cant say I have ever seen a church with a full fledged police department of its own. They mainly use local law enforcement or security.

According to google Disneyland CA has its own police force. Not sure about disneyworld in FL however it is saying Orlando police do not patrol disneyworld.

Interesting post

I find the wildly varying law enforcement of the US fascinating. Here in the UK the standards are national although some differences between Northern Ireland, Scotland, England & Wales.

Yeah it gets confusing to outsiders. While the United States is one country the 50 US states and the Federal government are separate sovereigns with their own constitutional authority / areas of responsibilities.

Lol, I'm aware of them and others such as the former Royal Parks Police.
Average cops are the same UK ish, standards, laws, training etc, but from personal experience Devon and Cornwall constabulary are more friendly and look less like stormtroopers than say South Wales Police orThe Met.

So would it be possible for the state of Alabama to authorise a local police force for a an educational campus which is funded by the board of trustees controlled by a registered church?

I refer to my Texas Christian University police example because this church runs a school campus.
I find it interesting regarding the state versus constitution thing.

Will they carry swords and shields? That's how you get me to sign up.
