Ashton Kutcher Introduces Tech to speed up Capture of Human Trafficking and Pedophiles

On February 15 2017, Ashton Kutcher (yes the actor) took 15:38 seconds to speak to the " Senate Foreign Relations Committee."

His discussion revolved around technology that a company he is cofounder of, "Thorn" has developed. This technology is designed to increase the speed of being able to track down human traffickers on the internet in a much more timely fashion. Needless to say, this is something he appears to be VERY passionate about.

I have mentioned before out of all the things that have been going on, the thing that has really disturbed me the most is how all this topic of Pedophilia has been so in our news here at ATS with all the leaks etc., but not really the MSM. Yes it does get touched on occasionally, but in all reality it barely scratches the surface.

With the mindset as it seems to be these days, maybe it will take a popular actor to actually bring this atrocity closer to the surface where people wake up and actually pay attention. This is something I would get off my butt and march about. I cant even think of a word that would describe just how important it should be to flat out tackle this awful situation and weed these animals out.

I highly recommend watching his speech. He is very well spoken, clear and precise. Yes, there are a couple of minutes where he does go into why his tech. should be funded, but that rest is purely from the heart and quite frankly, heartbreaking.

Very cool he is doing this. I could definitely get behind this.

I have often though of a company structured like SETI that uses the power of others computers around the world to search for human trafficking instances with real time reporting. There would be nothing more powerful than involving the world in this endeavor. I don't know if Thorn works off a principle like this, but I feel it would be a brilliant plan to really cut the reigns on this horrid practice.

Step 1.. appeal to emotions..check

They should have just used Tom Cruise for introduction to the Minority Report.

He is trying to remove anonymity from the net.

I'm not sure what you are meaning by a lottery AI. How would that work for this? I mean wouldn't a lottery be more random type thing?

Why is it so many here just want to shoot the messenger? Why not try to put as much or more effort into the issue.

Maybe you need to be a parent before you can fully understand the issue. One of my biggest fears when my kids were growing up was for them to be grabbed by some creep. Now I’m back to worrying because I have grandchildren. Anyone working towards nailing the sick freaks gets a big thumbs up from me.

I can't help but bring up the controversy that swirled around him when he tweeted outrage over Joe Peterno's firing in 2011. At the time, he said he didn't realize it was for covering up Sandusky's pedophilia, and deleted his tweet and apologized. But, a lot of people got upset at the time.

Explain how owning a database of millions of child abuse images is beneficial....and for whom?

Question: He sets up a company using technology to capture images. Is it legal for him and his company to have these pedophilia images on his servers and computers? How does that work?

Think about it....ETA: "Here Congressman so-and-so. Here is a link to what I was telling you about." Congressman clicks on the link and now he has an image on his computer. Talk about setting someone up for blackmail!!

Well, AI's look at patterns algorithms. So finding patterns within behaviors would sound something he's talking about IMO.
And as we know AI's seem to do that job very well. Now I don't know if the Neurolizer 7000 is that computer who will run at background to support such program he's talking about or maybe Watson doing that job to sort out emails and photographs to rule out any potential abuser, but it's the most logical thing I could think of if I listen to his story.

He is def a shill. I watched a few vids earlier of him doing the talk show rounds. He was def rooting for Hillary and he was expecting to sell this product through her.

Basically this software records pictures like a thumbprint. If that same picture shows up on another computer the software knows and alerts the system. On top of that, it uses biometrics to identify known people in new pictures as well.

Honestly, it is an amazing Tool that could actually help find children who are abducted and Having pics or vids being uploaded and shared across the internet.

That being said, it could also be used for far more nefarious purposes. My problem with powerful tools like this, is that there is no agency or faction i would trust with the power to use this without abusing it to further enrich their side and to destroy their adversaries.

Is it not that every new technology that could be beneficial for stopping the things we find disgustful, should at least gets a chance to be tested if it works. And if it works, that we also act on whoever the perpetrator is that's doing this?

He didn't know!!!!??? He and Demi set up their THORN Foundation (originally called DNA Foundation) in 2009. Surely being so involved in the matter of pedophilia, he would have heard all about Sandusky's controversial pedo cover-up, don't you think? That happened in 2011. He had to have known.

I am confused even more after reading Kutcher's website. What the hell do they do exactly? Can someone explain it without all the hyped up salesmanship that talks about the problem of sex trafficking? What exactly is the solution he is selling?

My question still remains: How does a private company that stores child abuse images, for any purpose, be allowed to do so? Do you just have to have a recognizable name, call it a foundation, create a slick website and tout your benevolent intentions, sell the technology to law enforcement (see his claims on the website), and everything is hunky-dorey?

I worked with a kid, child prodigy actually, when I graduated college that wrote the code for porn filtration that many companies use or base their algorithms on. It searched for the particular flesh tones related to different parts of the body along with shape of tone and positioning to find images with nudity. He sold the licensing to both sides...brilliant. Porn companies wanted it to pull more porn to their sites and others wanted it to filter from email/work related searches.

This was back in 2002 I believe. I am sure it has come a LONG way since then.

Google also had a part in the DNA gathering company, 23andMe.

Tell me again why Kutcher is in front of a congressional committee asking for money? I want to believe in the benevolent intentions, but I tend to wonder about what's really going on here.

So I see ,it's going both ways. How sad that initially it's build for protection. It should be punishable creating software to double the profit the wrong way.

Maybe those who created it , were offenders themselves to keep out of the picture.

Maybe Ai'd software will one day see difference to protect us from these things?
