Please listen to the first 5 seconds, you don't need anymore (this isn't music appreciation, there is a point).

After you listen, ask yourself if they were addressing you.

I'm not trying to trick people, I've just been looking for a floor in my own racist thinking and trying to understand why I will only call a white guy 'n-word'. I'm starting to think it is because I identify myself as a 'n-word' but I'm too paralysed by white guilt to embrace a 'n-word' like me.

This isn't a good test, nor is it conclusive.

I just think the vast majority of us identify as 'n-word's, and this is a good example.

I grew up as a kid in 50's and 60's,the only time that word was used was to degrade someone, and when that word was used generally meant a fight, problem these days,no one respects one another, then they whine about racism, what people lack in these days is self respect, when you have to degrade a person,it just shows you are below his level, and you fear him

I should add... if you don't think you are being addressed in the song, you're probably racist.

Nothing's worse than doing a test with no result.

All valid points, I have to ask though. Did you feel you were being addressed in the song?

You're absolutely correct tho, I have never seen the word used in hatred and have a limited understanding. However, how do we get over the vast difference in meaning for a 16yr old white boy who wants to be LeBron and a Klan Member.

You admit it's not a good test, but then go on to say if you don't think they're talking about "you", then you're a racist.
Which is it?

And before you tell me I'm a racist, tell me what these lyrics have to do with me and proving I'm racist.

You don't know no real #, 'n-word' (it's the real #!)
This the original Cypress Hill #, 'n-word'
We numb 'n-word', ya don't feel #, 'n-word'
You ain't on no real #, 'n-word' (X2). [B-Real]

It can easily be both. It's a poor inconclusive test, and any poor inconclusive test needs poor and inconclusive answers.

And the lyrics refer to the audience as N***a's therefore if you don't feel you are being addressed you don't consider yourself a N***a.

I did say it wasn't music appreciation.

Why listen enough to condemn the music and not answer how you responded to it?

So, according to your OP, if I don't consider myself a n*****" I'm racist?
WTF are you on about?

I have never seen the word used in hatred and have a limited understanding.

I'd be very interested in knowing how old you are and where you're from.

According to my OP, after the first 5 seconds of the song if you didn't think you were being addressed you may be racist.

No answer yet.

it's a terrible test too, mainly because, who would want to listen to a pack of knives stabbing you in the ear? I could barely make out what he was saying, and this is coming from someone who has rapped for many years.

The track is terrible man. The test is terrible. It's not even a test.

I'm actually encouraged by the lack of response to the actual question.

The test is silly, and means nothing. I can't argue against that.

The discomfort people feel in answering is interesting tho.

Cypress Hill was not referring to me when they sang the song. Back when the song was popular, the 'N' word was used to refer to another black person in an associative way or in a demoralizing way... people of nonafrican decent were not allowed to use it.

Well done on avoiding the question.

Possibly the cleverest diversion yet.

................................What? I'm still trying to figure out what the hell the song had to do with being racist, if you didn't think they were talking about you when they said n*** and ....song......you.........What?
