A bitterly divided U.S. Senate confirmed Republican Senator Jeff Sessions on Wednesday as the next attorney general of the United States after strong pushback from Democrats concerned about his record on civil rights.
Sessions, 70, who has served two decades in the Senate from Alabama, was confirmed by a 52-47 vote largely along party lines after Democrats raised public opposition to his confirmation.
In a rare move for a senator recently confirmed to a Cabinet position, Sessions took to the floor of the chamber after the vote and called for members of Congress to have some "latitude" in their relationships with members of the other party.

Honestly, my main concern with Sessions is State legalized MJ and the resurgence of the failed war on drugs.

This is awful. Sessions is the worst person for this job! I can't believe this fan of the Drug war is being celebrated for his nomination. Of course Trump picked him, therefore there is no need to question the choice right?

Actually if you watched them question Sessions he stated that if the states want to make it legal it was time to start looking into changing the federal laws to match.

The civil rights movement in Mobile, like many Southern cities, suffers from a lack of proper perspective. Places like Mobile were the crucial battlegrounds where the true meaning of black equality was hammered out, away from news cameras and long after the violence in Birmingham, Montgomery and Selma abated.
