A French soldier has shot and wounded a man who attacked him as he tried to enter the Louvre in Paris , reports that the man was carrying a suitcase and trying to enter the museum's underground shop.
French Interior ministry says incident 'serious'.

Police said the area had been evacuated. The interior ministry said on twitter the incident was "serious". A spokewoman for Louvre said the museum was "closed for the moment" but would not confirm reports it had been evacuated. A Reuters witness at the scene said police had cordoned off access to the museum.

No confirmation as yet as to whether the suspect has been apprehended or if he's still at large.

2 constants from different sources I've seen are a suitcase and a knife attack.

I doubt very much that the case was merely for him to put the Mona Lisa in.

Good job the French soldier was on the ball.

Early, but,

Details of the incident are still emerging. A French police spokesman said the attacker shouted "Allahu Akbar" - God is great in Arabic - but was not carrying explosives.

Doesn't make a lot of sense. Sounded like a robbery, the attacker was trying to get to the shop. Does not sound like a terrorist attack.

Channel 5 in the UK just reported the attacker was shot in the legs and his condition is serious.

There are now reports the attacker has been killed.

“The man is on the ground and is not moving,” one police source told Le Parisien newspaper. Some reports said he had been killed.

Also unconfirmed reports that a second man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

5 bullets fired by soldiers...

Apparently the person in question attacked the soldier with a macheté and had two backpacks.

Soldier injured in the arm and/or stomach.

The individual is apparently also gravely injured and was reported to have mentioned "Allahou akbar"

The Louvre and near by metro stations are currently on lockdown with roughly 250 people in a "safe" zone at the Louvre.

Source from French news channel BFM : www.bfmtv.com...

More to come as story unfolds from here in France as this only happened about an hour ago so everything is pretty unclear as differing stories are appearing from differnt sources.

BBC says 1 or 2 suitcases, but no explosives. I can't find 2nd suspect on telegraph, but the video won't play for me.

BBC and telegraph say a backpack and 1 or 2 suitcases. My French is not so good, but I can see it is just 1 man in the BFM France link.

No explosives found in packpacks according to BFM News.

According to the prefecture in Paris they are saying that this was probably a terrorist attack.

Person currently being interviewed live on BFM TV says that the individual was seriously injured in the abdominal area and is still alive (taken into care by the Sapeurs Pompiers (Firemen/Paramedics))

As I said earlier on, waiting for more info... this may take a couple of hours until the full story unfolds and we have a clearer view.

Well i guess all those soldiers they stationed at tourist attractions after the paris bombings payed off. strange to think how bad its gotten in france that they had to put the military on the streets. Seems to me that the terrorists won they changed french culture. and if this was another terrorist attack i expect they are going to evicting alot foreign nationals i think the french are getting tired of it.
