Just days after The National Park Service (NPS) was forced to shut down its Twitter activity over two retweets the Department of the Interior deemed inconsistent with the agency’s mission, the Twitter account for Badlands National Park in South Dakota seems to have gone rogue, tweeting numerous scientific facts about climate change that have since been deleted.

The first tweet about climate science came at 11:40 a.m. local time Tuesday. It said: “The pre-industrial concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was 280 parts per million (ppm). As of December 2016, 404.93 ppm.”

Source

With the Trump administration clamping down on official social media accounts (no hypocrisy there) it would appear that someone out at Badlands National Park decided to go rogue. Starting this afternoon their official Twitter account started tweeting climate change facts. Unfortunately these tweets have since been deleted.

Personally I find this hilarious. Someone decided the current administration's orders were ridiculous and they decided to take matters into their own hands. Unfortunately the park as a whole will probably suffer for this if not the Parks Service as a whole.

Big power struggle between the outgoing Administration and the new Administration.

Employees need to think twice before going crazy.

Disregard a Presidential Directive ... collect a pink slip. Maybe they saw the writing on the wall and already had something else lined up.

Anyways: See ya ...

Way to prove Trump was right in limiting the embedded rogue traitors from spouting their personal agenda unchecked.

We don't need Eco warriors wasting our tax payers money and resources on their personal agendas.

Or most likely the one Govt. employee who decided they were special and didn't have to abide by the rules set down by their employer will be looking for a new job.

Im still critical of where climate change comes from, but this tweet stands out to me:

Youre telling me , that with all the volcanic activity , change in atmosphere etc......that NOW its the highest its ever been?

Me thinks a hardcore Man made global warming activist that works for the parks service went rogue......

These are from the ice cores from Vostok, As you can see there are cycles....and hell even 300,000 , and again 100,000 years ago from right to left, you can see that Green house gases were higher than they are now......

This is scientific data......hard data.....

Just because someone tweets it doesnt make it true

“Today, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is higher than at any time in the last 650,000 years”

To the extent these are presented as "facts" I would posit just from a layman's perspective,

(a) there is no way to know what the amount of carbon dioxide was "in the atmosphere" 650,000 years ago, inasmuch as there were no humans around to measure it, and of course no instruments; and

(b) how did they determine the amount of CO2 "today", inasmuch as the tweet was about 11 a.m.; was this a local measurement, a global average, what was the actual number, it could be one PPM more than 650,000 years ago, or a million ppm, and

(c) so what? Measurements differ on this particular item. So what?

Seems to me it's not even the job of Badlands NP to measure and collect this data.

This is part of the problem: every has an "opinion" on things they probably know nothing about and that are objectively measurable.

Twitter is a well regarded and established scientific forum. It is peer reviewed and only well respected scientists use it.

You know the reason why the numbers on the side max out at 280ppm for year 0 when measured CO2 is over 400 ppm today?

Year 0 on that chart is not today, but more than a hundred years ago. So yes, CO2 levels are far higher today than anytime on that chart.

Obama and his people have been chosen, schooled and slipping it to us for eight years, you can't expect them to understand that they are no longer in control.

Since everyone acts like Trump and Bannon are gangsters or something maybe a statement from NPS in a few days.

X was a good employee with a favorable review record. We just don't understand it. Employees are cautioned not agitate the Bison. What were they thinking.

But really, should be tracked down and fired. Employee's are not there to make policy, they are there to carry it out. Any business would fire you. I imagine there are a lot of budding Captain Planets that need to be rooted out in various agencies.

Prove it, the data says otherwise

We can look at more ice core samples. Even farther left of the 0 where the spike is , is less than what I have shown you

So objective scientific facts are now a personal agenda under Trump. Good to know.

There are so many "sleepers" in govt. service. The leaks will never stop.

They may fear for their jobs when some depts. are disbanded. What do they have to lose? The web made everyone Anonymous.

To late now!

I think the Administration would have a pretty good chance of deanonymizing if they make nice with the NSA and use parallel construction to bring an actionable case that hides the NSA's involvement.

Prove it? Interesting that you are claiming Year 0 is (some year???) but I'm supposed to refute yours.

Still, that's easy - here's data with a graph showing the same CO2 levels as yours if you click graphics.

Oh, and this, which says this:

Vostok Station, Antarctica: approximately 415,157 BC to 339 BC.

See? Quite a bit more than a hundred years ago, even.

Oh, but maybe you want some numbers from the South Pole instead?

SPO 1975 7 329.39
SPO 1975 8 329.86
SPO 1975 9 330.05
SPO 1975 10 330.27
SPO 1975 11 330.47
SPO 1975 12 330.08
SPO 1976 1 329.46
SPO 1976 2 329.22
SPO 1976 3 329.18
SPO 1976 4 329.38
SPO 1976 5 329.61
SPO 1976 6 329.78
.........................
SPO 2015 1 395.79
SPO 2015 2 395.64
SPO 2015 3 395.66
SPO 2015 4 396.04
SPO 2015 5 396.48
SPO 2015 6 396.89
SPO 2015 7 397.36
SPO 2015 8 397.95
SPO 2015 9 398.42
SPO 2015 10 398.52
SPO 2015 11 398.54
SPO 2015 12 398.57

You might notice that these measured numbers are substantially higher than anything on that chart.

Maybe you would prefer some pretty pictures, instead?

This shows where several records are (such as Vostok and the above South Pole), along with where the following Law Dome records were in relation:

Here's what Law Dome tells us from about 1000 AD to 1978:
