I believe they are one in the same

You have triggered me again

grammarist.com...

One and the same is the logical formulation of the expression meaning the same person or thing. This expression is not hard to parse; it uses redundancy (one and the same being synonyms) for emphasis. The eggcorn one in the same sort of makes sense—if we imagine something being inside the same thing as itself—but it’s not the standard phrase and is widely viewed as a misspelling.

I suspect most on ATS aren't of the snowflake variety, and so the whole shutting down of people by simply saying "triggered" to insult them when they bring up any debate is indeed a way to remove discourse.

Used very sparingly and only in cheeky humor is fine, but pretty much most threads (given most threads these days are simply love/hate over us political figures) end up there by the unthinking ones, turning discussions into little more than insult and cheering.

I dont really see the point in the mud pit..I mean sure, it brings in traffic, but it makes the place a bit cheap for clicks..I wont question the business model, I know it works..just sucks that it works like this.

I agree, but I see it more and more. People actually trying to make arguments for what they think and instead of someone giving an alternate view point in a thoughtful way its just

Yes! Meme magick is real. Study psy-ops or NLP to find out how it works. Capturing microexpressions in candid pics...or even staging them, makes a strong impression on the subconscious mind. Then linking that with an idea, cements it in, while bypassing uor normal critical gate-keeper responses.

This is a large part of how the Donald won the election. He understands that the logical and conscious mind, is not our primary driver.

I agree with your sentiment but I want to be a language freak for a moment here.

As I said elsewhere in another thread, I think we are misusing the terminology here on a fundamental level. It's become so simple-minded and and is used in the opposite of what it really means.

1)
Snowflakes are beautiful and unique, and precious means 'extremely valuable' and 'do not treat carelessly'.
It should be a compliment not an insult.

It would be more accurate to insult someone as a 'useless dungheap' than as something wonderful like 'precious snowflakes'.

2)
Everyone is triggered by environmental stimuli at every point of their day.
Like the light turns red, so I'm triggered to stop and wait for it to turn green, whereby I'm triggered to hit the gas petal and go again. Or I see a nice steak and I'm triggered to want to take a bite of it.

It would be more accurate to just say "wow this # is crazy as $*&#@" or whatever, rather than "triggered hahaha".

So in conclusion, I don't actually see anything wrong with being a precious snowflake or by being triggered to respond to something.

I'm not upset about a word used to describe people I just hate when it's used as a way to shut down debate which it is all the damn time.

And if you haven't noticed it isn't people on the right using the word these days just take a journey through the mud pit threads.

Don't stoop to their level.
