Satirical cartoons, illustrations and caricatures have a rich tradition in the UK, going back centuries - both political and religious. It still is if you open any newspaper, or read any political / religious publication. Clearly current sensibilities around being beheaded by a nutter has endangered some freedoms - like depicting Muhammad in an form.

Politics and society in the UK has moved on significanty from Cruikshanks time. What was then would be unrecognisable now.
