I've met folks that have raised all sorts of abandoned wild animals, skunk, raccoon and the like..(i'm not in Kansas)

Why would you need to kill it.... it was comfortable with people, wouldn't even run when the "wildlife officials" approached it. Plenty of places they could've placed him..including somewhere as simple as a petting zoo..

Seems so senseless..

Three game wardens met at Mcgaughey's house and determined it wouldn't be safe to capture the deer. Rankin said there was also concern that the deer could be carrying chronic wasting disease, a fatal disease for which live deer can't be tested.

That is the reason given..but, if they had not studied the deer's habits before hand, how would they know there was weight loss or increased drinking/urination issues? (or any of the other symptoms mentioned in the link) Chronic wasting desease

So sad, yet I hope it is more complex than it seems.. otherwise..it seems like they just shot it for convenience to me..the easiest/quickest way to handle it for them..

Humans are sick, really? Any other Apex predator would have ripped it apart and eaten it alive. At least it went down swiftly. I don't understand how this pet deer was a danger to the community or any people in particular. I guess the law is the law. If it were my family though, I would try to get the local news and state Rep involved, maybe call for some tweaking of the legislation that led to this unnecessary act of terrorism on a family.

Yes, the law is the law. But does the law really authorize a game warden to execute an improperly licensed animal? I somehow doubt it.
