Hostage situation at credit union on Univ. of Alabama campus

DEVELOPING – A suspect reportedly took hostages at a credit union on the campus of the University of Alabama Tuesday, sparking a tense standoff with armed police and a SWAT team.

Hostage negotiators are on the scene at the Alabama Credit Union, not far from the university's law school in Tuscaloosa, WBRC reported.

The university sent out a campus-wide alert warning people to stay away.

Bank robbery gone bad? Poor student in debt up to his eyeballs with the cost of education? In all seriousness though, hope this turns out well for the hostages. Gotta be a pretty scary situation to be in.

Can't find much, other than its not a robbery from what i read on google. Classes are not in session for a few days so that's probably a good thing. I should clarify fox news says it's not a robbery, and it appears this situation started either before the c.u. Opened or right at opening time.

So sad. I lived there for many years going to school and working. Great town - this kind of thing can happen anywhere I guess.

Also heard, initially, it was a robbery gone bad.
