I'm glad they let him go, I don't believe that anyone should be subject to the barbaric conditions the Americans have put these people under. Anyways I am ashamed that our government let them do this to him.

thanks,

I'd like to suggest that some members collect news stories on Habib's story (I've got papers due today and can't spend the research time.)

Here's some links.

Habib reunited with family

After more than three years in US detention as a terror suspect, Mamdouh Habib has arrived back in Australia.

The 48-year-old was transported from Guantanamo Bay on a government-chartered aircraft. He was flown from Cuba to Tahiti over Central America, in line with US requirements for him not to be flown over American airspace.

The plane touched down at the ExecuJet terminal of Sydney Airport shortly after 3:30pm (AEDT) today.

Indeed the same has happend in the UK. Some of the men held at Guantanamo Bay for years have been released and returned here. They were arrested again in the UK by advice of the US. A couple of days later they have been released with no charges.

I wonder if any compensation is going to be payed, in my opinion it should be.

Australian P.M. John Howard has stated 'NO' in strong terms regarding government compensation.
There are the usual TV media willing to pay big bucks for his 'story'.

Anyway, he wont be able to sneeze according to this article.

Proof???

WTF kinda proof are you looking for? Should we drag all the soldiers who caught him off the front lines as witnesses??? Fly his family over to tell us what a great guy he is?

Sorry, thats not gonna happen...we don't have time for ACLU lawyers and Liberal judges who would drag a trial like this on for a year!!

This is WAR!!! This punk got caught doing something prettty bad Im sure, we don't toss anyone into Gaunatanimo Bay.

His family were looking to move to Pakistan, he was there looking for schools for his children. It is said his was taken during a general sweep leading up to the Afgan invasion.

In October of that year, as he travelled on a bus to Karachi to catch his flight home, he was arrested by Pakistani police.

He obviously was innocent of the US charges as he was released without charge.

The US has also alleged that Mr Habib spent time in Afghanistan and helped to train al-Qaeda militants, although, now the US has decided not to press charges, the precise allegations against Mr Habib may never be known.

In fact, ever since his arrest, it has not been clear what Mr Habib was being held for.

news.bbc.co.uk...

You have obviously not read any information about this man and his circumstances. As I said before, know what you are talking about before you post.

Yeah I read them, Im gonna trust our US Military's word before I trust this MFer....just because we let him go does'nt make him innocent. To hold someone for 3 years is serious...and like I said, he musta got caught doing something really bad.

We're not talking Boyscouts here...these killers hide behind nice people like yourself and Kriz.

I edited this post after reading the article more carefully.

Calling you and Kriz "nice people" is a personal attack? I beg to differ.
