I think that'd be awesome! Of course the SM badge would come with some kind of disclosure waiver thing. To have that in multiple fields would be sweet! You might want to either remove the E or have different levels. Sometimes I don't always need and expert or it doesn't necessarily take an expert to debunk some basic parts of various disinformation/wild CTs. I'd gladly take someone who even just understood the subject matter better than me.

With the Fake News thing, are you saying that: Having a bunch of "volunteers" (all the ATS members) willing to become some kind of multiparty fact checker as an alternative/competitor to (the other "fact checker" that just landed a lucrative contract with some company we all may have heard of) could be VERY lucrative for ATS ( if I misunderstood then I'm sorry) then I completely AGREE.

They could even greatly expand and start paying micro payments to the SMs who answer question or post in their respective (badge)s with something to support/or refute facts/opinions in various news articles. You could even give "raises" in micro payments to the SMS who advance in lvl or adds another SM. You heard it here first! Haha. I do think that'd be awesome and I'd love to participate in something like that. Can you imagine the extra traffic you'd generate? Anyway, I totally agree!

YES!.. ATS...

become some kind of multiparty fact checker as an alternative/competitor

Nailed it!!.. albeit we're tangentially running with it in regard to the topic... barring the monetary portion (unless the revenue generated allowed).. this would be a great idea.

Snopes is good and all (respectively).. but I have sought out ATS for facts (or sources to) more so than I ever have Snopes so.. yeah.. great idea!

Can we call this a Brainstorming session (in part)?

I'm all for that. Why don't you start a thread though and we can repost the relevant threads there and a link on this one to redirect there. I would start it but I haven't done that before and I'm kinda doing two things at once.

What do ya think?

Honestly... I think this is your perfect opportunity to post your first thread. Jump in.. It's an excellent idea! You're sharing an idea that could potentially generate a revenue stream for this site. That will garner some attention. I would be honored to contribute and please feel free to link to this thread if you prefer.

Just remember to not take the naysayers responses personal and respond just how you've done in this thread.

In fact, I'd love to be the member to give you your first flag.

Time isn't an issue, fake news nor ATS nor the internet is going anywhere... take your time.. I am sure it will be an excellent thread!

You have the Com good Sir.

Isn't that what an avatar is for?

IMO... an avatar is a representation of the person on the whole... a badge would be an add-on to that whole. ...my perception of course.

Thanks! Well I'll give it a shot I guess. I don't think I can give flags (I only have access to an iPhone right now). I've run a search on this cite and googled it. Tried a bunch of things and no dice. You wouldn't happen to know how would you? If you do let me know. I'd love to give you my first flag. I loved how for the most part everyone was really respectful to one another. Even people with wildly differing opinions on some very emotional issues. You run a good thread!

I think it's a bad idea, I know a lot of members (thankfully not too many) have a grudge against military personal for whatever reason. It could lead to arguments or petty behaviour.

That being said, you can slap this one on mine....

Thank you for your service..

People have problems with... well... [insert thing here].

There's not too much on this site or in the world period that absolutely everyone agrees upon I'm fairly certain.

But that's a good thing.. makes us different!

I'll give you an example.

A convoy of military trucks were driven by active reservists (those that already served and in their service rotation out) was SW of Atlanta on their way to New Orleans with supplies.

One was broke down NE of Atlanta that *MAY* have had a passing friendly truck driver that regularly visits this site stop to make sure he was alright, repairs were coming, wanted to call family on their cell phone and enjoy a nice cold Mt Dew.

Thing is, I sympathise with those who are against it.

I'm from Great Britain, a country which up until recent times (mid 20th century) had a great empire of countries taken over my military might.

Now don't get me wrong, I think the British Empire shaped the world in many good ways, in fact I reckon a lot of the world wouldn't be as civilised as it is without our great empire.....but there were far too many atrocities involved for my liking.

Then we get to the 20th century, a more mature Britain stood out in the world, a civilisation to be admired, with many scientific and cultural achievements to be proud of, the bloody days of colonisation behind us.

WW1 we fought a battle over a stupid reason that escalated worldwide, but it wasn't our fault, we just got dragged into it because it spread so far.

WW2, we tried to stop a madman from taking over the world and exterminating anyone he didn't deem fit, we fought for our freedom, and the freedom of the world, in fact, it taught us a lesson and we disbanded the empire altogether.

Now we are being sent into wars over lies and economic issues? My God, what those poor chaps fought for in that second major conflict is being shat upon from great heights!

When I joined, I wanted to make the world a better place, I wanted to help my country secure a better future for all of humanity, what a right bollocks our leaders made of those dreams.

An army should be for defense, not making sure everyone reads from the same book.

Rant over.

Sorry.

Truth doesn't need a badge, or does it?
Does ignorance?
What needs a badge?

I don't like the idea. Far too many people use their military service as a way to expect gratitude or leverage among others.

Why? Are we starting a killer kult?
Some sort of dark hierarchy?
"I killed the most Kommies for Exxxon!"?

They don't realize that the fact that they are even able to post their hate on sites like this is because of the sacrifice of the men and women in service.

So all the sacrifices that the everyday common military man/woman of the US made was so we could have ATS...is that what you're saying? Those sacrifices for freedom sure kept the MIC raking billions and yet you still got shafted with Patriot Acts.

Once someone leaves the force does a badge make them any more "qualified"? Just look at the PTSD war sufferers, would they not be damaged?

Do I get a thank you - never in the military but I served my nation in working and paying taxes to support military spending in making us a target, involving Australia in Afghanistan, so the drug trade keeps flowing into the US.

My immediate family has served in paying taxes of over $500,000, hardly any of which has been spent on health or roads or the genuine needy.

Unlike joining the military we dont have an option of not paying taxes to keep the debt on debt that the politicians pile on us.
