MamaShred, I wonder what that tastes like on a hamburger? Add a little cheese and bacon and whatever. LOL!

Skiddy, your dogs are just adorable!

Going out tomorrow with my friend Linda as we got screwed out of going out on snowy slippery Tuesday. Yay!

Where is the rest of night crew?

Rider, are you still alive? Gordi, you still sick? Kaelci, you still in the bushes with Dave? Kat, are you in some corner somewhere? Syx and CC, you guys sleeping? Jiminy...where are you? Step away from the other threads. LOL Errollore, you sleeping?

Timely, you about to pop in? Wis, where is my Wise Woman of the Shedlands? Jess, must be sleeping. So many others I could mention, but my brain is getting tired. Too bad the rest of me is so wide awake.

TrueBrit, we miss you!!!!!!!! We miss our missing members and lurkers should jump in. Do not be afraid, the dragons here are friendly and protect us. The pixies might be a little mischievous, but they grow on you and can be quite endearing after a while.

I'll see if Mamashred us down to brew us a pot. She is the expert I just harvest the stuff.

I started to brew some chaga for y'all! Brew on warm with the lid on of course . Enjoy

Swheat
. I knew you would be down.

Night Star said you would be mean and not make the chaga, so idk what her deal is....

(just kidding everybody, she said no such thing)

This stuff always gives me vivid dreams so I'll try some tonight and report back hear if it still does about a year since last having this tea.

I read that it is supposed to detoxify, decalcify?, and overall nourish the pineal gland?

Ahahaha! I want to try that on a burger. Actually, I take an asperin a day and have jumped that one number from not being diabetic to being diabetic, but no medicine needed...yet. So I can't take that stuff. And OMG, I take melatonin to help me sleep and those give you vivid dreams. Can you see me on those mushrooms and melatonin and my anxiety pill? Good lord, I'd be like Alice in wonderland or something.

I am trying and it is too intense!

In all seriousness tho, that could potentially be bad. I normally don't get much of a perceptible effect from melatonin. Once I took it in conjunction with 5-htp, and St. Johns wort, and I think this combo may have brought on Sleep paralysis, also it threw my serotonin out of balance for a few days.

Afterwards I did some reading and found out that all three of those supplements come with a surprising amount of potential interactions.

Yes, it is important to research things. I have tried St Johns Wort before. I usually just have an herbal sleepy time tea, but I never researched all the ingredients and how it would interact with melatonin. Not a big fan of tea anyway though. Yeah, melatonin doesn't always work for me. Then again, there are days like today where I took a nap that was way too long, so it's no wonder I'm still wide eyed like an owl.

Thank you Night and all of my friends who stopped by, it was so thoughtful!
I'm sorry I was so late to the party but, have been busy with the girls and family that came by to visit.
The girls were needing some 'Mom' time and it IS my most important job

I was so excited that the weather was nice enough for hiking on Monday. Temps hovering about 42 F and plenty of sunshine! My youngest and I explored a bit (short hike only about 6 miles or so) and found some fantastic outcroppings to explore, where I am sure animals either sleep now or perhaps people 100s of years ago. She is definitely the more adventurous of the two girls and we always wind up 'off the beaten path'.

I found some pretty webs with droplets of water sparkling in the sun and evidence of a 'larger' animal with white fur having been harvested by??? Dunno but, the little excursion was fun and much needed. We always feel reborn and rejuvenated after a trip to the woods!
All in all a fantastic week so far and we sure did need it.

((((HUGS)))) to all of you! and much love! I hope you can feel it...

Here's some photos I took (quality sux as I think I've said I take crap pics!
)

(temps are nice, water still freezing! Of course I got wet! LOL)

I apologize if this comes off as lazy, I really am a noob and would prefer to answer my questions asking them here rather than digging old answers up.....When is the next writing contest? What does one of those generally entail? (characters, subject matter, freestyle, fictional, fact, always changing?

Is this the only way to achieve writer status? Or as a custom title.

What other titles are there if its not too much to ask? I could come up with a good idea or two for new custom titles we could earn....

Anyway I ask because I want that Writer status

The competition is daunting to say the least but I believe I have what it takes.

LAZY NOOB!!! ROFL j/k

Hi Shred,
The writing contests take place in the SHORT STORIES forum.
(If you click on the little "fsme" on my avatar to the left, it should take you there!)

The current (January) Short Story Writers Contest has just come to a close, but we do hold them Monthly if we can!

Writers Status is indeed usually conferred on the winner and runner-up in the "non-writers" section of each contest.
But, you can earn writers status in other ways too...
If you regularly contribute Short Stories to the Short Story forum, or participate in collaborative writing projects, or even by regularly dropping great story entries into threads like The Shed, you can receive writers status that way.
The title does have to be earned though!

THIS is a LINK to the current Writers Contest, where the winners are just about to be announced!

If you need any further information or assistance, please feel free to ask!

Ah, grasshopper, ancient Prairie proverb says, "The only bad question is a question not asked."

Other than that, Gordi covered everything. Can't wait to see your entry into the next contest, Shred.

Gordi - thanks for your work on the contest despite being sick. Hope ya feel better soon!

Jane is the creator of the original Shed, is she not?

I chose my current avatar partly to honour her "rainbow" signature.

Just a note on this one: - All of the previous episodes I've posted so far about Gaalen & Siere are part of the first half of a large-scale arc in the story I've called "The Ice Forms."
Starting with this post, this next section is called "The Ice Melts." I leave it to you to figure out what those mean, although I doubt it will be hard. I'm not that clever.

Today's episode: Jutaera Baeler

Seeress Meron had called early in the morning. He was not even dressed when Joen popped his head into Gaalen's bedchamber to announce that she was waiting for him. Gaalen dressed quickly and headed out to meet her, dismissing her guard who managed to look overjoyed and embarrassed at the same time. Still slightly disheveled, he escorted her down the hallways and stairs to the lower levels.

“Lord Braeghe,” she said as they walked, “where are we going?”

Gaalen glanced at her. “To the armory.”

“The armory? What for?”

“I have some things to show you that may help if you find yourself in a difficult situation as you did yesterday. I do not think you were attacked by common thieves, Seeress Meron.” His face turned serious. “Not just anyone gets past a Lanceguard so easily.”

“There were four attackers. Even an experienced swordsman may fall to those odds.”

“I beg your pardon, Seeress, but you do not understand. Please, allow me to show you.”

He led her down a crossing hall, turned once, then again. Shortly they found themselves in a huge open chamber. Off to their right worked three groups of youths. In one, a young woman – Lady Eilana Itaericae, a liege of House Rivercross, and a protégé that Kaena had taken a keen interest in – led adolescent boys in the a’karana with practice swords and maar staves. In another, Lady Hiraen Thorowen – a severe lady with permanent lines in her forehead and a mouth that appeared to always be frowning – barked out sharp commands for a set of older youths. She singled one out, dressed him down, and gave him a brutal Correction. The boy got up with alacrity, though, shaking it off and beginning again.

Lady Eilana called out new drill, this one in tempo. As she started banging her sword on her buckler in time, Seeress Meron cried out and flinched.

“Are you alright?” he said in surprise.

She looked at him wild-eyed for a moment, then her mask returned, and she straightened. “I am fine, just startled, that is all.”

Gaalen hesitated a moment, then nodded. “As you say, Seeress.”

He pointed to the third group. One man danced and spun, sparring in a circle of six others, his wooden practice sword moving almost too fast to see, Lady Captain Silnae watching on silently.

“There. They call it The Well. That drill was his specialty,” Gaalen said quietly. “My men refer to – referred to Corporal Baeler as Jutaera.”

“Jutaera. From the Book of Voices? The man who defeated a thousand warriors by himself?”

“Yes. That Jutaera. When I last saw him defeated in The Well, Baeler was not shaving his beard every day yet. He knew how to fight four men, my Lady. In a Market alleyway, that man was capable of holding off forty. You were attacked by a master swordsman, and I intend to find out who he was.”

“Is this why you brought me here?”

“That, and one other thing. Would you follow me?” He tried not to smile, and she threw him a distrustful look as they headed out of the training chamber toward the yards on the north side of the Bastion.
