George Soros is Funding Facebook's Third-Party Fact Checking Organization Targeting Fake News

Behind almost every liberal crusade of the past several decades, from the blocking of voter ID laws to the Syrian refugee crisis, there has been one man quietly pulling the puppet strings from the background: George Soros. So imagine our complete shock when we discovered Soros to be the financing source behind Facebook's "third-party fact checking" organization retained to flag, and thus eliminate, "fake news."

Just yesterday, Facebook posted the following press release to their website detailing their plans to use a "third-party fact checking organization," known as The Poynter Institute, to flag "fake news." The role of the "fact checkers" will be to review news stories and flag anything they deem to be "fake" so that it can be deprioritized on Facebook's news feed.

The third party "fact checking" organization known as Poynter claims that it's views are not partisan, and that they combat "fake news". But these claims can be easily debunked when we know that George Soros' Open Society Foundations, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, google, and Ebay founder Pierre Omidyar's Omidyar Network are some of the most prominent rich left-wingers who fund this organization.

To show just how much "bias and lies" this organization loves to claim "are facts", "zerohedge" also shows an article from Fox News in 2011 which was about a "journalism class" that Poynter News University set up to claim that Jihad is not a leading cause of deaths in the last 40 years.

Yet this is false, this is not a thread about Jihad, but it is an example of a lie that the Poynter organization is claiming is true.

The Poynter News university ignores the Jihad all around the world which have been waged by nations such as the Jihad from the 1980s waged by the Islamic government in Khartoum on Sudanese Christians which murdered over 1.5 million Christians. Then the Islamic government decided to also attack Muslims in Sudan who would not advocate radicalism, and since 2010 there has been an estimated 300,000 more people killed under the second Jihad on Sudan since the imposition of Shari'a in the country. The total amount of people who have been murdered by Jihadism in Sudan alone is over 2 million people. No one knows for sure the total amount because of the media blackout, punishment, including the imprisonments, and disappearances attributed to the government in Khartoum against anyone in the country who disagrees with Shari'a law/radical Islam.

This is only one country, and it's Jihad wars against it's own people which proves that the Poynter institute is nothing but a mouthpiece of far left-wing progressives who have enough billions to impose their fake news as "the truth" on the rest of the world.

I think if people are getting their news from Facebook you've already lost them and their not coming back. So to that end let George Soros have them.

It isn't just facebook. Google, yahoo and other organizations also want to do the same thing. In general this is about total control of all information. Remember that the Obama administration also gave control to the internet to ICANN, and one of the members that control ICANN happens to be China, a known government that controls all information in the country.

This is about the very far left globalists controlling what information people have access to and can read.

Is anyone really surprised by this?

They will ensure that the only "facts" going forward will be their facts.

Is that all this institute does? Is it illegal for a private business to use 3rd party fact checking?

Fake news gave us ridiculous Hillary stories. Most Trump stories, oddly, were true.

I do a lot of fact checking, I would enjoy being paid once in awhile.


There are banned sources on ATS because they are FAKE sources, they engage in fake videos and news.

It doesn't matter what 'side' to me, I will fact check anything.

People continue to play partisan politics and "blame the other side," but those of us who have been paying attention know that NO former, current, or future president will do anything to benefit the American populace.

The "sources" and "references" will compare well to Wikipedia and will be easy to deconstruct.

I don't even consider those fact checker sites legitimate. They can pick and choose evidence to show anything anyone wants to show, just like some do here on ATS. This place has taught me a lot on how to recognize those kinds of people. I am sure some of the fact checker stuff is real, but not all of it.

Even scientists can't agree on the applications of evidence a lot of times. From what I have seen in those fact checking sites, there are more people pulling the strings than just one person.

That conflict was from 1983-2005 in which 2 million people were murdered. The first part of that conflict was against Christians. The estimates are about 2 million Christians murdered, and about 300,000 Christians and non-Arab Muslims who would not become radicalized also murdered. That's not counting the millions that have been displaced. The Jihad has continued to this day with more people murdered and displaced.

That's just the Jihad in one country. But again, the thread is not about Jihad, but the fact that this so called "fact checking third party website" lies and presents lies that the rich globalists want people to believe as fact.

George Soros investigating "fake news" is exactly as ironic as OJ Simpson investigating who the "real" killers were of Nicole Brown And Ron Goldman...

I would suggest to Mr Soros he begin by interrogating the visage in his mirror as he embarks on this most noble of quests...

What isn't this guy behind when it comes to liberals, marxism and communism. His picture should be next to each word. Seriously though, isn't this guy like 268 years old? Just go away already. Nothing is ever done about him. Even from the right, isn't it interesting how none of them ever try to expose him or bring him down.

Why are these big companies and foundations so involved in this?

Why do they suddenly feel the need to filter information to the public instead of having an open market of ideas? What is their stake in this?

Is it a coincidence that all these major media platforms that held Clinton on a pedestal jumped on the Fake News narrative the moment their candidate was defeated?

Say, the Encyclopedia Britannica is revered as the most credible reference source there is.

An institute that posts lies as truth? Who? Where? When? What're they called? When did it start up? Who is funding it?

No such thing exists at this moment in time. I would be more surprised than not if something ever did exist such as that.

I'm aware of Facebook's (Fedbook) new policy. But with that said, and as another poster mentioned, if one is using Facebook for "news," you're a #ing idiot. The same goes for those who watch the TV for "news."

People should ABSOLUTELY decide what they want and I'm not calling for ANY sort of censorship, but let's be realistic. Do Americans really even care about credibility in the things they claim?

The new trend of Twitter and memes has proven otherwise. Lengthy research has devolved into click-bait headlines and dank memes.

"Fake news," and the conspiracy of the institution you mention is counter-productive. "Fake news," is a buzzword coined by the talking heads to keep people distracted. Disinformation and misinformation has been spreading "fake news," for decades - and is sanctioned and legally approved for domestic use by the government.

It's counter-productive because the amount of unreliable and non-credible sources drastically outweigh those that are credible.

I use videoblocker in my browsers as an addon or an extension.
No more Alex Jones on my screen!

The same can be done for sites.
They wont show up in your search result anymore.
