Reoccurring Nightmare Was Just Normal Dream

I have been having these reoccuring nightmares for the past 10 years and last night it was different, it was like a normal-ish intense dream. I say normal-ish because it followed the same abstract plot as my nightmares, but there was no major conflict.

First some background: I have PTSD, and my reoccurring nightmares are related to events that happened in 2006, they follow the same theme as what happened in 2006, but are sometimes exaggerated, displaced into different locations, involve slightly different people--yet all follow a pattern.

Last night was different, the same theme existed throughout the dream, but without any of the major conflict. Everything seemed to go smooth, no voilence, no major backlash.

So dreamers, what I am wondering is: Can I take this as a sign that my PTSD is getting to become more manageable?, could this be taken as a sign of improvement?; or is this just a bit of a one-off and can I expect to go back to repeating the same nightmare again?.

Sorry if you thought I was going to write about the contents of my dream.

you don;t need to give us all the contents of your dream, I like that you told us it related to what happened back when and you have PTSD.....I would take it as a good sign! this dream was better like a seed was planted, when you go to bed tell yourself your dream will keep getting better! like you are watering that seed and helping it to grow

come back and post again to let us know

I hope so brother. Because people like you are the best of all of us. Stay strong and vigilant, and know with no uncertainty that people like you make us proud with your honor, with your courage, and with your life.

I'd say it's a very interesting and noteworthy development, and a relief, and only time will tell if it's a turning point. I hope it is. I truly do.

I, too, would like to see what happens over the coming weeks with the nature of your dreams.

Well I dont remember much from last nights dream but it wasnt a nightmare from what I do remember. The symbolism might be of interest; I was trying to break a padlock with an iron bar, the weird thing was that the lock wasnt attached to anything so there was no real goal, just me hitting this lock with an iron bar. Really kind of pointless.

I'd say never pointless but a telling expression of symbolism concerning the lock.

Can you elaborate more about the lock? I have focused on the iron bar because its not some random lump of iron, it was something I grabbed out a pile of junk in 1994/5 and known to me. It was machined, not cut; it was worth grabbing at the time.

The lock, it was just a padlock by itself, it did get bigger once, then smaller again, but I have no idea what it might mean, if it means anything.

Off topic (maybe?):

A lock is a lock. It is meant to keep something secure. You were trying to break open the lock with your special piece of iron. Symbolically, there is something hidden, something you can't see, you are trying to access. Yes, no?

Have you ever tried to learn to control your dreams; or at the very least try to become aware during them so as not to fear them as much.

I don't have PTSD so I can not relate to you there, I do hope you are getting better. But I do suffer from sleep paralysis.

When my sleep paralysis use to happen to was quite fear full; a waking dream state when you can't move and so you are helpless isn't fun.

But than I started to read about lucid dreaming technics and after putting them into practice (and time) I have been able to manage my episodes much better. Be being more aware of what is happening has removed much of the fear associated with the episode.

I havnt tried to control my dreams, I'll give it a go, I like the idea.

I has sleep paralysis last year but it stopped, I think it was related to a change in medication for me because when I changed back, it stopped. Its scared me when it was happening, but hasnt happened at all since.

Reading up about lucid dreaming is something I should do, its not a topic I am that familiar with.

Something I'm trying to access... could possibly be something within myself rather than something material. Thats where I'm at with that one. There are things I have "locked away" and I need to access them. Its hard, but I'm trying.

Last nights dream was weird but cool. I dont remember much, but we were building a limousine, I guess I was working for Mercedes-Benz?. When the car was finished, Mercedes-Benz made a statement about David Bowie not going to get to enjoy it. It wasnt explicit that this was a car he ordered before he died, but this media release when the car was finished implied that it was.

I woke up from that, and was WTF?, that cant have happened, I dont work for Mercedes-Benz and have a sketchy history with limos.

Not going to try and read too much into that one, its too cool to ruin. I like Bowie, I like Benz; Bowie likes Benz, and I'm sure he would have liked me too.

That was the initial impression I had which tells me you are making progress.

Your Bowie/Benz dream is rather comical! It's much more lighthearted than a nightmare. I'd just let it be, too, and not try to analyze it too much unless it becomes a reoccurring theme or some sort of synchronicity happens.

I cant tell if last nights dream was a nightmare, it was difficult for me to understand what was going on. I woke up around 4am, agitated from this dream, but not in a cold sweat. It had no elements of my nightmares, but it did make me feel uneasy.

Most of the people in this dream are people I dont know or dont know very well. A woman I use to work with was mourning the loss of her mother (who is still alive IRL) and was in a bad state. A porn star who I have never met, but who is on my Facebook friends list was in it but there was nothing erotic about her presence unfortunately. There was also this model who I dont know present in the dream, she does exist and we have mutual friends, but I never met her.

I'm not sure of what was going on, but it most certainly related to trans issues.

My motivation for posting this is about my former co-worker tho. She lost her job and girlfriend recently, and is in a bad state already, if her mother does die any time soon, it will be a total #storm for her life. I hope its not prophetic.

Because of the level of unease this dream gave me, I think it might be worth looking at.

Just a quick update. As yet still no return of my PTSD nightmares, but dreams have been weird.

Last week I dreamed I was married, and discussing with my wife what we were going to get from the shops. It was so normal, it really depressed me when I woke up--because I am not married to her.

Last night, tho I dont remember my dream, I woke up and I could see writing on my hand, I try to focus and read it but it disappears... yeah that was a bit strange.
