A new Russian reality TV show set in the -40C Siberian wilderness will "allow rape and murder", its adverts boast. Game 2: Winter, described as the "ultimate survival test", sets 30 male and female contestants against each other and the elements for nine months. It will be streamed online around the world 24 hours a day, seven days a week. "Each contestant gives consent that they could be maimed, even killed," reads the ad

What do you think?

Just an attention grabbing headline to get viewers to watch (just like the film: Hunger games)?

Is this a good idea for mainstream TV ?

i know this stuff happens everyday in the World but to allow it to possibly happen on a live reality-show??

Mind you, I do remember that one episode of big brother where that nasty girl got a bit too friendly with a ine bottle in the pool!

This seems to be a very obvious bad idea. I guess I am confused though. If the point is just to survive, why are they advertising raping and killing is allowed? It seems like an attention grabbing headline that is going to get the wrong people interested in participating. Plus it is going to normalize rape and murder. Last thing the world needs. It's like we don't care what you do, but the government still does. Doesn't make much sense to me. If the legal system is anything like the United States, they will be getting sued instantly. I don't care what contracts are signed.

Rules of the game stipulate the contestants must be over 18 and "mentally sane".

That automatically would cancel the show, for only mentally f$%#ed people would consider participating in such rubbish.

My guess is a ploy for attention. Which reflects back on humanity badly, as this is exactly the kind of headline that grabs our attn.

Murder and rape are still illegal under Russian law, so there's that.

Its just promotional BS.

From the article

In an interview with the Siberian Times, he said "any claim of participants even if they were to be killed or raped" would be refused. "We will have nothing to do with this," he said. "This will be spelt out in a document to be signed by the participant before the start of the show." However, Mr Pyatokvsky warned contestants that Russian laws still apply, and contestants who commit a crime could face jail time.

The guy is just saying that waivers will be signed so the show will not be liable for anything that happens to you.

Fantastic marketing campaign though, I would never have heard of the show without the sensational headline, smart guy

Murder and rape are against the law no matter what 'waivers' are signed.

Nobody can legally consent to be murdered or raped although some have tried. Laws protect us from ourselves as well as the criminally insane out there.

Imagine serial killers waving little consent slips signed by their victims?

Yeah the part where it admits murder and rape are still illegal kinda ensures no one will see this happen.

It's illegal, it's on camera, lots of cameras, everyone know's it was you...
This show is going to fail immediately.

The show is only saying you are on your own and they will not intervene if you are getting raped or killed, but if you kill someone you are still subject to Russian law.

Imagine someone pulling a gun on a cop and firing upon them, or a militant firing a RPG at a tank and then just standing there getting shot in retaliation.

That's explicit consent and waiver to be murdered, and it's justified.

And well consenting to be raped is just 'consensual sex' even if it's a little freaky and weird.

I also want to add that anyone wanting to watch a murder or rape or both is a sick twisted individual, just for wanting to watch it something is terribly wrong.

I was sickened by the dark net when I learned that people share videos of murders, heinous grotesque murders.

I find it deeply disturbing people want to watch brutal death out of morbid curiosity.
There is so much better to interest yourself in.

Murder is usually defined as 'unlawful killing' which couldn't be covered by consent. There was some guy who travelled to Europe and actually agreed to be killed and eaten by some psycho. The cannibal guy was imprisoned for murder. On the other side, can anyone be considered to be 'in sound mind' if they agree that someone can kill them?

Either way we look at it, killing people in almost every situation imaginable would be murder. Obviously there are exceptions for manslaughter, euthanasia and do-not-resuscitate etc.

I'd argue rape is rape in the context of the TV show. It wouldn't be kinky bedroom fetishism; it'd still be one person inflicting violence on an unwilling person even if the person had signed a waiver three months earlier in a TV studio.

Waiver or not, wouldn't complicity become a legal matter in the TV show context? Camera crew filming a murder would arguably, at least, fall under 'joint enterprise' penalties - they'd be complicit.

Reality TV is corrupting the minds of teenagers across this country. I also blame poor celebrity role models and the music industry for the decline in morals of our young people. Sure there are other contributing factors such as poor parenting. However, I feel kids are being manipulated because they spend an extensive amount of time watching reality TV, listening to violent and sexually explicit music, playing violent video games, and watching violent videos and sexual explicit internet websites. They're being bombarded with questionable content which doesn't make it easy for parents raising children today.

I totally agree with you on that.

If this show goes ahead, I can see many people watching it just for the 'what if that happens...' scenario. I don't think i'll be watching it, although if I see an attention grabbing headline like 'person killed on reality show', i'll most likely read the whole page on it..

I think this show will get banned if someone does do anything to another contestant! can also see lawsuits being bought against the producers!

Would be great though if someone made a reality show where certain Leaders in this world were put into such conditions and had to survive.. or those animal hunters were given a choice 'jail or be hunted' (by the animal).. I'd watch that.

Sounds like the Hunger Games. Also, sounds like an incredibly bad idea. I remain unconvinced.
