I'm Really stoked for this! By the way, is that the voice of Captain Price running base command, or do mine ears deceive me?!?
I've been playing MechWarrior: Online since closed beta, and, though I really do enjoy it and think its a great game (despite what the nay-sayers on
their forums say), I have been ITCHING for some single-player Mech action for years now.
I remember my first foray into the Battletech universe was MW2: Mercs. By the sounds of this though, It looks like they're going to really bring back
that nostalgia in a good way.
As for the micro-transaction stuff, I watched the live-stream of Mech-Con where they announced it, and it sounds like it won't have any of that. It'll
be like old times - you buy the game, it's yours, no "spend US$15 and get this mech" nonsense.
I think though that they MIGHT do expansions, seeing as, according to the interview, their projected timeline only runs up to JUST before the
"Invasion of the Killer Clams" (intentional spelling error there). That's alright by me, as I'm an Inner-Sphere Loyalist (Filthy Clanners can go and
suck vacuum!), but it would be cool to see a classic-styled add-on that adds more missions and extends the timeline into the Clan invasion in the
future.
What also excites me is (and I quote from the article), "With the countless planets of the Inner Sphere to fight on, MechWarrior 5 will use "seeded"
levels which will generate terrain dynamically based on a variety of factors."
That sounds like there could hopefully be procedurally-generated maps and missions, similar to what's being planned for the turn-based Battletech Game
that Harebrained Schemes is developing. If that's the case, then you could conceivably run through ENDLESS contracts and missions without getting
bored. I really DO hope that is the the case.
In any case though, I know for myself at least, it's all aboard the hype-train, bound for a bright end to the tunnel of non-singleplayer-mechwarrior
despair!
By the by, Lysergic, do YOU play Mechwarrior: Online?
Cheers!
