You know what's ironically funny about that--I have lived abroad for multiple years (albeit in Germany, a "western" culture), and when I comment with similar points as you are sharing, people accuse me of being compartmentalized and never having experienced any other culture. But, in having experienced other cultures (I traveled while living in Germany), that is what provides me with the perspective to realize just how good America and Americans really do have it.
And sadly, it's not just the youth in America.
