I have thought long to share the experience at the Lodge. It's complicated. First, its widely written of, but, something in all the writings is missing. Something all the psychics and ghost hunters should have found. Something I found a long time ago, but, kept to myself.

Now, I feel I must say something as new things have come to light.

This place is gorgeous, simply stunning Victoria Hotel. Inside is a lovely restaurant, as well as sumptuous rooms. Also inside is a Saloon in the basement, and, a Gentleman's Room off the restaurant. I noticed a sign walking in. 'Tequila Night - Red Dog Saloon.' We, I drug my buddy with me, ask the attendant at the Old World Hotel Desk the locale. Around to the right, and down to the basement. Ushered through with the polite wave of a hand.

Swinging around and down on the sweep of the grand stair, we find ourselves at the bottom on a Terracotta tiled landing. Right is the Men's Room and a Door. Left, under the stair, a Ladies Room and a Door. Straight ahead the Red Dog Saloon complete with Bat-Wing Door's.

To the shots. Talked to the pretty blond bartender. I had to work myself up a little as I was real young - the wings were stretching still. The whole time I can feel it. The haunting. This place is legit, told my friend, drank more Tequila. Finally worked enough nerve and state I could feel the haunting to the Bartender. Thankfully, she did not ridicule or think I was using a line. Even called the desk so I could see the Presidential Suite - vacant at the time.

I went to the desk. The ease and acceptance had me feeling loose and open. The manager brought me to the room, we found the water running in the bathtub. Turned it off. I said I still could feel it, but, basically like the rest of the hotel. Haunted all over, but not quite the actual source. The Manager asked what I wanted to do next. So, up I go to the tower. Now the whole hotel is all around me. I can feel it strongest coming from the back right side, below. Back down to the Red Dog Saloon. Right to the Bartender. I ask what is the door next to the Ladies Room. She gets a Mona Lisa Smile, walks around bar toward the Bat Wings and says

".. It's the door to the Right Wing Storage and things to run the hotel. Why?"

"Because I want to go through there," I say. "This place is haunted from this level, behind that door".

By this time we are standing in front of the door. She opens it... a long white, kind of dull compared to the Lodges Splendor, hallway.

"Yep", I say as I walk, "it's down here".. I go 1, 2, maybe 3 doors down and I can feel it on the right. Walking with the Bartender I ask her what this room on the right is. She states as she opens the door.

"It's the Boiler Room". I step in and it is indeed. A boiler Room. A creepy Freddy Kruger Boiler Room. I can feel the haunt coming from the back corner of the boiler room, but not quite totally there in the room itself. Turning around I say to her.

"It's in the corner, but, in the next room over." Pointing back, "...you know, the adjacent corner.."

The Bartender just goes blank, mouth a little open. She stares, pretty round glasses perched on her perky nose, for a few more silent seconds and then flees.. Literally leaves me standing there while she runs down the hallway yelling stay put...

So here I am on the Continental Side of the night, ahem. The Tequila gave me a little more sensitivity. Something I had not realized till then, and, now I am standing in some freaky boiler room in the bottom of a Grand Hotel feeling very haunted. The Bing Bongs are like Bongo Drums.

After what felt like forever the Bartender comes back with the Manager in tow. I can hear them talking, the Manager is asking if the Bartender said anything. Tell her what you told me says the Bartender. I look at her, then the manager.

"Sure, the place is haunted from that back right corner, but, in the next room... So it will be the next rooms back left." - I had time to think about it...We walk to the next door down. The Manager opens it.

It's a laundry Room, big washer one one side, a hot water heater, a set of Laundry Tubs in the corner wedged between the dryer on the other side. An electricians box above the Laundry Tubs. I remember thinking funnily enough that the Electricians Box couldn't be in code so close to a water source. They were directly above the Laundry Tubs. Looking at the Manager I say.

"Your Laundry Tubs are haunted." No lie. She then looks at me and nods to the Electricians Box and breathes...

"Go open the Electrician's Box..." He eyes were wide open, like eggs in a skillet.

I walk over to the Laundry Tubs, this haunting, I know, is eminently in front of me. I open the little metal door and there is no Electricians Panel on the inside. It is empty, only a cover to an open hole in the wall. Revealing a bricked up stairwell, the inside barely visible, showing the place where Rebecca, the Lady that haunts the Lodge, fell to her Death.

I could tell both ladies were stunned a little. They knew the box was there, in the wall. They also knew I could not have known the box was there... They asked if I was psychic. I hedged I was a little tipsy and Irish American... trying to ease the mood. They asked for me to keep it quiet in reference to the write-up in the book. Or so I was led to believe, and I did. Walking back to the Red Dog we found all the Men's Toilets and Urinals flushing over and over, one after another, flooding the floor. Like someone running up and down the line pressing the plungers down.

I pretty much kept my word. I have told few. Never defined or too public. Through the years I never see anything about the bricked up stair. Now, I can not keep quiet, for I have learned something that just blows my mind. Mind you, I found this stairwell in 1989 and have yet to see a peep about it by anyone. Putting 1 and 2 together. Please read. What would you do? Note the Ouija Board transcript:

And for some people that need a little written from the Night Watch Link, here is a quote from the Ouija Board Session that has me going public...

...The answer was “BECKY”.
Question: Is this the same spirit that The Lodge refers to as “Rebecca”?
YES

Question: Why do you stay here?
FAMILIAR

Question: Where is your body?
DOWN UNDER GROUND HIGH ROLLER PLACE

Question: Do you mean this place?
NO. HIS.

Question: Do you mean the lumberjack who supposedly killed you? And, if so, what is his name?
PETER COMBS

Question: Was he ever associated with The Lodge in some way? And, if so, is there a place where we could confirm his existence?
JANITORS

(Note: We did not explore this answer to find out whether it meant the Janitorial office of today or of the 30’s) Our next question attempted to find out how she was murdered. After getting no response, we decided that Rebecca might not have been murdered in the truest sense of the word. So, we asked:

Question: How did you die?
HARD FALL

Some how, your propensity for prose got in the way of telling, I assume, a story.
I didn't finish it.

After a few shots of tequila, he found a haunted spot in a hotel no one else was supposed to know about........Or at least that's what I got. Your mileage may vary.

This is a very real thing for me. I realize it is wordy, but I am recalling the events. Maybe some are to detailed but I am serious about this. This place is haunted... and that person seems to be honestly trapped there. Doesn't that make you feel, or wonder? The sadness of a prison is obvious to me, even those of our own making. And I can't stop thinking about Rebecca.

At the end... In my head I chalked the death as a Housekeeper falling to the laundry room on the servant stairs.

All those Toilets and Urinals flushing one after another, draining Toilet water on her - the ghost's 'familiar' (as she put it) place. She was obviously pissed.... at me. Or trying to get me to pay more attention as I walked away after closing that stairwell access panel no one talks about.

Reading the Night Watches Ouija Board script maybe showing me why she is angry at me... walking away.

Hi V, The Lodge located in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. There is a lot written about the haunting in a couple different books like The Ghostly Register.

The place has a website. The Lodge as well.

S&F. This story is great.

Have close friends that have been to cloudcroft. Not sure they went to the saloon, however.

I liked the story, whether true or not. I was about to subscribe so I could look it over later when I read some other comments. I had a few questions but for the most part I followed you just fine. The only thing for me is that I'd like to hear more about the Ouija board session you refer to. That "Latest find that got me writing" link doesn't go anywhere. I'm really curious about that if you'd like to share more.

The Ouija Session. I myself never touch them, but, I didn't have to in this case. That session I list almost got me on a plane to Cloudcroft, NM. I was going to see if a blessing and release would be good for her... then I realized, what gives me the right. If Rebecca wants to hang around till judgment, whom am I to say different.

However, talk about a total confirmation... for each of us. The people that did the session never knew about the stairwell... and I never knew about the session until 2016. Since that find the people have stopped their paranormal site which linked the Ouija Board Session. She (I contacted the site author) said it was done by a bunch of locals and could not give me anymore details. I haven't had contact with the New Mexico Paranormal Investigators yet... I believe I archived the session though, but I'll have to post the whole thing further. She indicates in the session she was not murdered. The people speculate in the transcript on how she could die from a 'High Place'? It's pretty interesting for me and what I found out when I was there.

I think the session, and piecing it together with the stairwell - how it is placed in the hotel, seems to indicate Rebecca was running from or to, a lover/husband/boyfriend and fell down the stairs, killing herself accidentally. However, I believe the husband/lover/boyfriend thought he was the cause and buried her elsewhere. The reference to High Roller seems to reference a town just outside Cloudcroft named High Pass.... However, she has her own reason's to stay. I can not be her judge.

What I wonder about more then anything is why The Lodge continues to hide the stairwell?

MP3 INTERVIEW WITH MARSHALL GLADSTONE OUIJA BOARD SESSION AT THE LODGE IN CLOUDCROFT, NEW MEXICO

The following is a transcript of the Ouija board session held in the Governor’s Suite at The Lodge at Cloudcroft sent to us from the manager at Cloudcroft, Marshall Gladstone. He received it from the group who conducted the session.

After calling for contact with any spirit that had a message for us, the board spelled out the word “QUESTION”.

We asked for the name of the spirit we had contacted. The answer was “BECKY”.

JANITORS

(Note: We did not explore this answer to find out whether it meant the Janitorial office of today or of the 30’s)

Our next question attempted to find out how she was murdered. After getting no response, we decided that Rebecca might not have been murdered in the truest sense of the word. So, we asked:

Question: How did you die? HARD FALL

Question: Did Peter push you? YES

Question: Did he mean to kill you? NO

Question: Where did it happen? SALOON (We assume she means the Red Dog Saloon here at The Lodge)

Question: Did anyone see this happen? NO

Question: Are you interested in going into the light? YES

Question: Do you know what to do? NO

Question: Are you afraid? YES

Question: Of what? JUDGMENT

That concludes the transcript that we have from the group. They also told us that they deleted certain questions and answers that were of a personal nature to the participants. The information about Rebecca is not what is commonly believed. Namely, that she was discovered by her lover in the arms of another man and then murdered. But… who knows? We don’t have much information at all on her.

That is the transcript of the session in it's entirety. Oh, and I was mistaken... the town outside of Cloudcroft is High Rolls. I believe that is what she is referring to with High Roller Place. The stairs she fell down go from up by the Suites on the top floor, down past the first Saloon, which when I was there that was used as a waiting bar for the restaurant, called the Gentlemen's Club. Past, to the now Laundry Room. She referenced Janitors, maybe he was a Janitor, maybe an area. The basement Bar, the Red Dog Saloon, I don't think was there in her days...

I also didn't catch the reference the session makes that some personal content was removed... stairs maybe?... Why are they hiding the stairs?

When I was there I also centered on the little 'waiting bar' That is the Saloon I believe she is referencing - The Gentlemen's Club... it was creepy feeling, really the only place I did not like, except the bricked up stairwell in the basement.

So now what do we have. A ghost the place will tell you was a Chambermaid. My walk through and finding the stairwell in 1989... The Ouija board session that was done years after my walk through. They know nothing of the stairs, but she said it in the session... I wish the site that had the session hadn't folded down... it lent some support to my walk through and a stairwell no one else seems to find, or reference, save Rebecca.

Accidentally pushed, or she fell fleeing down the stairs. To or from Peter Combs. Worried of judgment, therefore stays... My friend thinks she was having an affair and fled the room, or Saloon, and fell to the bottom at the Janitors Room...

I know this is one place I would go back to, radar on so to speak, again.

Small correction.. In the first Post I said Presidential - it was the Governor's Suite. Also, when you walk down to the Red Dog Saloon, the Women's Bathroom and door of the hallway that leads to the Laundry room are tucked under the sweep of the stairs, to the right... Men's on the left... Also, the door to the laundry, again, on the left... not the right.

It sounds like you've done this type of thing before...were you there to specifically get a feel for this incident?

What do you think she wants? Or what is it that you think traps her?

I think the personal content that was removed was information that maybe the spirit/entity/whatever said about people that took part in the Ouija board session. It's been widely reported that spirits/entities whatever they are tell things about those present. Sometimes these things are true and sometimes not and you can see why they might remove them either way. I'm of the opinion that whatever is being contacted by Ouija boards can't always be trusted to tell the truth. I've noticed a fixation these entities have with judgement. I wonder about that. Thanks for adding to your thread I am very interested in these things, and don't take my comments as derogatory in any way, I'm very interested in your story and your research.
