Fidel Castro, Cuba's former president and leader of the Communist revolution, has died aged 90, state TV has announced.

Cuba 's Fidel Castro, former president, dies aged 90

Mandella Effect?

Not this time...it appears (according to the BBC) that Cuba's Fidel Castro has actually passed at age 90.

This is from the BBC, so I'm fairly certain this isn't a Facebook hoax.

It's interesting that the man was able to live long enough to see tensions between the USA and his country eased, if only just barley.

There isn't to many more details at this time, but the article does give a bit more about Castro:

Fidel Castro ruled Cuba as a one-party state for almost half a century before handing over the powers to his brother Raul in 2008.
His supporters praised him as a man who had given Cuba back to the people. But his opponents accused him of brutally suppressing opposition.

In April, Fidel Castro gave a rare speech on the final day of the country's Communist Party congress.

He acknowledged his advanced age but said Cuban communist concepts were still valid and the Cuban people "will be victorious".

I'm not seeing to many collaborating stories.

The man survived how many assassination attempts? Truly a relic out of time. I honestly thought he was probably already dead and his death was covered up.

I think, in a way he might have been holding on due to the hope of seeing Cuba and the USA reach better terms?

Looks like I was first to post in this forum, and we've got a bunch of topics now...

I wonder how many people under 30 remember much or know much about how big of a part Castro played during the Cold War?

If true I know he's going to a nice warm place. A long stay with other communist leaders!

I wonder if he's leaving behind a classic car collection? I do know Cuba is well-known for their vintage/classic cars.

I honestly did think he probably died a while back. It turns out, however, there was a fake story about his death floating around (actually there have been several) in the past few years.

This just goes to show you how even rumors can worm their way into our brains and cause us to think we remember things differently!

I think it has just morphed, not died. Political correctness was originally a communist thing after all.

Local news station out of Austin, Texas just announced Castro was dead according to his brother. I would say it is the real deal.

I see Che shirts (have for a long time). Haven't really seen Castro stuff.

Meh -- Cuban cigars aren't even that great, and it wasn't like Cuba was some kind of incredible success.

Aaaaaand within 5 minutes of me posting my comment the flood of stories came in

Most just regurgitating the same information from the same singular source.

I'm sure in the days to come we'll be fed more details. I wonder if Trump will do anything?

Castro will live again.

They're cloning him right now as we speak, tomorrow he'll be a walking zombie cigar smoking doppleganger, with another half century to relive it all over again.

True. The real good stuff is Dominican cigars, but people just think since Cubans were banned for so long there was some legitimacy to their quality due to their taboo.

The announcement came from Cuban State TV. I am trying to find a video of their announcement.

Quite possibly the only Marxist Leader of the Cold War who actually believed in it.

I'm surprised he lasted so long, constantly calling out the Bilderberg group like he did.

rip Comrade Commandante.

Anyone have any new info on the supposed cancer treatment Cuba claimed to have? I remember hearing about some crazy-advanced cancer treatment out of Cuba.

Who knows, maybe they are going to clone him...the man had an odd ability to survive everything we (America) threw at him.

Did anyone see that the US sent a "rent" check to Cuba every year for Guantanamo Bay? He just shoved them into a desk drawer and never cashed them. I guess we had some ancient tennant/landlord agreement with Cuba over the use of the 'bay.

It isn't dead. It is now known as "socialism of the 21st century" and there are many countries which in ignorance have embraced one of the worst type of dictatorship ever known by mankind. Venezuela is one of the many examples of "socialism of the 21st century".

As for castro's death?... GOOD. I hope his brother, his communist sons and the rest of the communist party in Cuba and around the world die. The world would certainly be a much better place without these people.

The so called "better terms with the U.S." hasn't done anything for the Cuban people. In fact repressions against opponents of this marxist/leninist system has increased since Obama has opened the door to Cuba's regime to gain more money which the Cuban dictatorship uses to suppress Cubans more. "Las Damas de Blanco" have been one of the groups of dissidents in Cuba who have been beaten by the communist thugs frequently.

Free health and education , does America have that . A good effort considering the USAs attempts to destroy them with boycotts .
