Lets talk about why Iraq IS a great target for some "adjustments"...
Iraq was lead by a tyrant that has killed thousands of his own citizens to stay in power....he has attacked at least 4 neighbors (Iran-war, quait-invasion, and both the saudi's and israel with scud missiles) He has openly used WMD in the past, had a up and running WMD program and had threatened to continue such development and USE of said WMD's.
Iraq refused compliance to the UN up the end on not allowing international inspecters to adaquatly inspect and enforce the UN sanctions...
Iraq failed to comply with the gulf war cease fire agreement, thru the UN, which it signed. (technically allowing the war against it to continue for just that alone) As Iraq was not ruled by a fundamentalist extremist muslim regeim, going after Iraq is LESS likley to be seen as an attack on Islam than it would have been to attack a different muslim nation. (besides other muslim nations including iran and saudi arabis were not already under UN problems.

America has few good options for relations/dealing with the Saudi's....
IF we attacked them it would be far more disruptive to the worlds oil market for us and more so for our allies....
IF we tried to deal harshly with the saudi ruling family, they would be squeezed between USA preassures and the fundamentalist portion of their population....it is far better to keep the current rule in place there than it would be to try and oust it and give the extremist the chance to further destabalize the ENTIRE region. While we know indirectly the saudi's bear SOME type of responsibillity with 9-11, destabalizing a government that HAS been trying to cooperate with the west for decades, seems FOOLISH! Especially when the other option there would be to allow fundamentalism to claim yet another country to its demented anti-west ways. Which would you choose? a stable west dealing country with problems but one that works with you? OR a country in civil turmoil where they dont want to work with the west? The Saudi's are part of a REGIONAL approach to mid east problems, iraq was also part of this regions problems, but one where it was more clearly evident.

Now without going off into a "my religion is better than yours"....(and trying to blame christians)
As to the 20,000 "innocent" people killed....
There is a WAR raging...wars are messy....This is probably one of the LOWEST death tolls to civilians in recorded history for a millitary action with such firepower!!!! All deaths of this nature are regretable, but are part of the costs of waging a war. At no time should they be taken lightly, but at all times are they to be expected.
Lets see, population of iraq is waht about 50 million? 20,000 dead is what kind of %?

Great post, TL. I was going to reply, but you've seemed to cover everything. I don't understand how someone can be for human rights, women's rights...any kind of right at all, and still be against getting rid of Saddam. He was a horrible man, and he needed to be dealt with. Saddam's crueltys towards his people have always been well known. We've dug up mass graves, found rape rooms. We know that he gassed the kurds in the 90's...awful, AWFUL man! And a coward at that. I've learned not to pay one bit of attention to people who try to make the statement "Our sons and daughters being sent of too die!", for they will never listen to logic. Even right in there face, showing them it's a volunteer army, they won't concede. But for some people, that's how it is. Some people DON'T WANT to change their political views. It fits in too much with their look, or who their friends are. They like feeling self-righteous. They chose their view because they think it's cool, and that's not what a political view is supposed to be. I respect you, TL, for having changed some of your political views. Oh yes, I'm sure that our troops just purposely march down the street blowing up school and homes, right? Yeah, that's how they're going to accomplish the mission. Get real. The soldiers target buildings that have large groups of terrorists in them. And they don't just blow them up, they give fair warning and evacuate them first. And those websites reporting civilian death... Do they have someone there just counting the bodies for those websites? Also, if you haven't noticed, terrorists don't wear uniforms. Many terrorists dress in normal civilian clothing, that way they can shoot out of crouds and not get caught. You can't tell a dead civilian from a dead terrorist.
