T. LOUIS • A St. Louis police sergeant was shot in the face Sunday night when a driver pulled up beside him near Hampton and Pernod avenues and opened fire. "He was targeted because he was a police officer," Mayor Francis Slay said at a press conference at Barnes Jewish Hospital. "He didn't stop anybody. He didn't point a gun at anybody. All of us as a community have to do what we can to help find this guy."
A San Antonio cop has died after a gunman shot him in the head while making a traffic stop outside police headquarters Sunday, authorities said.
"It's everyone's worst nightmare. You never want to see anything like this happen," San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said at a press conference.

It's sad police on duty were shot and they were just sitting there. I don't find it to be an epidemic, though.

That may be true, however, there is also a substantial increase in ambush killings.
Those are not as common.

So far this year, there have been 52 cops killed due to violence
www.cnn.com...
Higher than last year which was 36.
Although in 2011 there were 73 cops killed thru violence.
Interestingly, car accidents are the 2nd leading cause of death for cops:

Another cop was shot in St. Louis today. They are saying he was just sitting in his marked cruiser when someone drove by and shot into it hitting the officer in the face.

Then a cop in San Antonio was sitting in his cruiser writing someone a ticket when another person walked up to his drivers side window and shot him in the head killing him.

Wth? These cops are just sitting in their cars and being shot. It takes a real scum bag coward to do this.
I would not want to be a cop right now and I think there will be a max exodus of cops if this sh!t keeps up. I know lots of cops are allready questioning their careers over this.

Well, you know what they say, "Cops are racist." And they likely all voted for Trump or something too. As we all know, only racists voted for Trump.
Honestly, this is what happens when the press plays every single cop shooting as if it is automatically the fault of the cop. Some of those shootings are bad, but a lot of them are not. But every time, the press trots out its narrative which has the cop tried and found guilty before the forensics team has even finished collecting the evidence.

Yes they are.
These are the numbers as reported by the National Law Enforcement Officers Fund as the total number of cops who were "shot".
I dont see that "ambush killings" are being excluded or reported separately.
ETA:
I see your point.
While 73 cops may have been shot and killed in 2011, more than the current year, the percentage of "ambush style killings" is lower.
I would argue that every shooting is bad and probably with the same malice regardless of the specific style.
