The problem with Medicare, IMHO, is the vast numbers of people under 65 who receive benefits.
That is what drains it.

What needs revamping is taking those recipients and putting them on Medicaid or some other program.
And.....whatever it is called.....people on disability benefits.....need to be actually disabled.
Fraud is rampant....both on the doctor and "patient" end.

The states need to develop program of rehabilitation for people who victimize children. Identify the sociopaths who are incapable of change and keep them in jail permanently from empaths who made a 1 time mistake. This is the SINGLE LARGEST CONTRIBUTOR to anxiety and depressive disorders and those disorders compose the BIGGEST DRAW ON MEDICARE.
The states are not doing this.

kff.org...

Of those who were receiving SSDI in 2014, 34% qualified due to mental disorders

There was a statistically significant association between sexual abuse and a lifetime diagnosis of anxiety disorder (OR, 3.09; 95% CI, 2.43-3.94), depression (OR, 2.66; 95% CI, 2.14-3.30), eating disorders (OR, 2.72; 95% CI, 2.04-3.63), posttraumatic stress disorder (OR, 2.34; 95% CI, 1.59-3.43), sleep disorders (OR, 16.17; 95% CI, 2.06-126.76), and suicide attempts (OR, 4.14; 95% CI, 2.98-5.76). Associations persisted regardless of the victim's sex or the age at which abuse occurred

Because of Obamacare, medicare is broke.

For those that obviously don't know how medicare works.

A small percentage is suppose to pay for medical benfits around 3.5 %. Which is paid out payroll taxes.

For those receiving social security benefits where both the employer, employee are both contributing 6 % each.

Which means one government program is 'paying' for another government program.

Since that premium is automatically deducted before a person ever sees a dime of that social security check.

On top of ALL that.

Obama created the capital gains MEDICARE sure tax because of the spending shortfall.

None of that covers the program costs, or the benefits received.

There are over 60 million people on medicare. Which have been taken out of the private sector.

The kicker of it all as if that wasn't ENOUGH is that both social security recipients, and medicare recipents are BOTH told to supplement their healthcare with PRIVATE.

Medicare, and medicaid should be spun off to the private sector.

Why should the US government have the largest monopoly on a corporate product in the country ?

That's right people.

Over 120 million people on government ran healthcare, and people WHINE about their hospital bills.

PRIVATIZE it.

Yep. This may be the only way we get single payer.

Let the Koch Party make people's medical bills so unpleasant that the pendulum swings hard in the opposite direction.

I can remember when Obamacare came out and polls started to say how people didn't like it. As usual, Americans don't nuance. A sizable percentage of people polled didn't like Obama care, becasue it didn't go far enough, they had wanted single payer!

Of course, the reactionary right in charge of the Republican Party took the headline to mean that Obamacare went too far. And that started the drumbeat against it.

The state has no effing business providing subsidized CORPORATE products to the masses.

Republican critics use to call that crony capitalism.

Others call it socialism and communism.

Point of fact the ONLY function of health insurance is to pay the hospital bills.

Until what they charge is addressed healthcare will never be 'fixed'.

Health Insurance is a business designed to create profit for the investors in the corporation, for profit hospitals and the pharmaceutical industry. What they charge is determined by market forces, it's capitalism pure and simple.

No it isn't.

Let me let you in on a common known fact.

Investors about about the LAST thing them evil corporations 'think' about especially when it comes to stock type.

Market forces eh ?

Interesting that the largest 'non profit' insurer in this country is the US government and their 'single payer' programs.

Over 120 million people taken out of the PRIVATE sector.
