The US military has recently confirmed the death of 31 marines following a helicopter crash. The crash took place near to the Jordanian border.

It is the single worst loss of life for US forces since they invaded Iraq in March 2003.
The aircraft, carrying troops from the 1st Marine Division, came down in bad weather near the Jordanian border, Pentagon sources told the BBC.

You expect to lose many soldiers during the course of any war but to loose 31 marines due to bad weather is just a waste.
Is this another case of equipment not being desert / sand proof?
