Right. Maybe they should stop polluting so much and use more up to date pollution scrubbers at their plants. Not that I want the US to go dirty. That would be dumb. Work smarter and harder. No need to pollute to compete.

That costs $, I think that is why the old coal plant here in the US fought so hard to not update their plants.

Both China and India are BOTH building coal fired plants.

How about they ACT like they are doing something good before they 'warn' the US ?

Bunch of hypocrites.

China is building a lot more than coal plants. Coal just happens to be fast and cheap. Their coal plants are a short term plan though. That's the main difference, in the US we want them long term when we have better options like nuclear and geothermal.

I have traveled to China 4 times, and if you are walking around in Shanghai, and walk into an area that is lower than other areas, (it is mostly flat, but there are depressions where the land is lower by up to 50 feet in places), and walking down into them along a street, you will walk into a thicker air that smells like xylene and toluene and it becomes hard to breath.

Nothing compares to being choked out in a public place by an unseen force like that. Having to run to higher ground while holding your breath is a sketchy proposition.

When they have big international events there in the big polluted cities, they shutdown all driving and factories for weeks until the smog goes away, then when the event is over, they fire it all back up and pollute everyone like a gas chamber.

So if Trump calls off the climate agreements, what is China going to do, pollute more? I didn't think that was possible.

Those agreements allow China to continue to build coal plants as a short term measure. China's point of view is that it's unfair to expect them to invest in expensive energy technology without the opportunity to first use cheaper tech to develop their economy/infrastructure the way the west has.

If the US doesn't adhere to moving towards more expensive technology, then China won't either, and will instead look to coal as a long term proposition rather than short term.

If the US pull out then that leaves China with even less incentive to shift away from coal power plants.

Trump warns about China and it's growth, energy control is a good way to engage them.

It's worth mentioning that the US has a lot of money locked up in R&D with regards to renewables and alternative energy sources, why go backwards when the world is getting somewhere.

At the end of the day the world's energy consumption not just China's is growing. At the same time the demand for cleaner environments will grow.

China gets away with it's economic and industrial growth, I'm with agreement with Trump that it's damaging to the West in general but China knows it's poisoning itself in doing this.

It's a funny one because the more I think about it the US is damned if it does pull out and damned if it doesn't.
