Big Band Favorites

Someone started a Classical thread and I found it a delightful antidote to 'election angst' and thought another thread, this one for Big Band Favorites, classic and contemporary, would help keep my head from exploding. I don't look forward to either outcome so feel screwed whatever happens so I need lots of help.

And a new-ish 1.
Matthew Herberts Big band.
An excellent merging of modern sample based electronic music, and traditional big band.


1 of the best gigs i have ever been to. They were supported by another gentleman by the name of Bugge Wesseltoft. He wasn't big band, but produced a series of albums under the title "New Conceptions of Jazz", and he's very much worth a look if that's your thing!

Sorry I haven't checked on this thread in a while.

A Basic Big Band is considered 5 saxes; 5 trombones; 5 trumpets and 5 percussion with many variations therein.

Thank you, I've never heard of Matthew Herbert's Big Band and did like the sound. Where are they based?'

I would have like to have had even more 'electronica' throughout the piece but do understand the difficulties. I will listen to more...
