So, we're squarely in the Information Age and yet, we're still dealing with the same old politics of yesteryear (alas..."the more things change..." - Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr). I have a suggestion to elevate communication to the next level:

Require politicians to give speeches, attend meetings, and have discourse with the public and others using ONLY the words that come out of their mouths - without the benefit of notes, computers, cell phones, laptops, aides, etc.

I was watching a UN session today and watched how every country read directly from their notes. What better way to dis-inform and manipulate the message than to have a super team behind you producing every word to enunciate and deliver - in golden syllables - the message of a nation?

I recommend that all political venues - that have a vested public interest - require the speakers to openly discuss topics based on their own understanding of the topic and what they perceive as the true motivation behind the message. This, at least, elicits honest dialogue, rather than preconceived notions of "what is best for the people".

Anything else is false representation of ANY people's will.

Well, I'm open for discussion on the topic, but at the end of the day, my small contribution - among wiser and better ones - will be lost to the electrons of the age.

Parting thought:

(Note to ATS Staff: I realize I'm supposed to explain my video, and likely provide twenty seven eight-by-ten color, glossy photographs with circles and arrows, and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was but I respectfully request that you consider my topic in relation to the video and draw the connection.)

DISCLAIMER: These are the words coming out of my mouth right now and were not prepared by anyone else, nor are they are representation of anyone else's' view, nor contain a hidden agenda...I think you get it, but feel free to contact me if you have any questions - preferably via phone or in person.)

Problem is, some people are REALLY good at that kind of speech, like Hitler. He was a master of the extemporaneous speech. His party kicked him out, then the floundered, so they brought him back, as he knew they would, because they needed him so badly. Didn't turn out so well for the rest of us, or the Germans, for that matter.

Every election year, like cicadas, people bring up the notion of election reform. Yes, it would be nice if we were able to incorporate our advanced technology into the process to hopefully get a better politician who is suitable for the job and who might actually make people's lives better.

But that's not going to happen. The reform has to be done by the very people who have greatly benefited from the system as it is now. They have no motivation to change. It's gotten so bad that the good people we really need running things have no interest in it. They would rather stay in private industry where their talents can make them a lot of legitimate money, and they don't have to ransack the Treasury.

Also, it's become quite apparent that the loud people on the Internet are completely insane, and if we had public hangings they would line people up for the gallows. So incorporating our advanced technology into the process might have some very unexpected and possibly disastrous consequences.

Because one day there will be a guy (or gal) who rises among us who is not a clown like Donald Trump, who is articulate and inspiring, who never said or did a bad thing to anybody, and who will capture the imaginations of all of those over-sensitive, whining dopes, and run the world right through the meatgrinder.

Fair enough, but how often does someone as exuberant as Hitler come along - someone that can literally transform a nation to his will? I mean look at the politicians now, or in the past several years. Has anyone really transformed your belief system with their words?

To be fair, I guess I see your point. However, in this age of information, we are no longer led to follow our leaders based on charisma, but on mere manipulation of words themselves.

I guess we're screwed either way, but I would rather have someone talk to me right in the face, rather than have them deliver a message that was prepared months in advance by some wanna-be hipsters just trying to make ends meet.

Cheers!

The trouble is, that we are already well beyond the point where a politician with an agenda of their own, is hardly what is needed.

We need politicians who understand that the LAST thing we want as people, is to be told what we need, what we may have, what we may have taken from us, and how we are going to go about putting these things in motion.

We need politicians who understand that it is their job, to do as they are damned well told. When those who care for the disabled say "you need to fund every level of care to the tune of thousands of percent better, and be state run, not privately administrated" it is not their job to turn to us and tell us no, or tell us that only private companies can deal with these issues, but to knuckle down, accept the instruction, and carry it out like good little slaves to the people, like they always should have.

When we tell them that we do not support, endorse, or desire to be citizens of a nation which engages in proxy war, we will not accept arguments against that position. We simply expect all spending on that arena to end, our assets in the region to either come home in the event that they are citizens, or slink back into regular life in which ever nation they happen to be.

When we tell them that we expect our nations overt war resources to only be deployed against:

a) Nation states, and with as little collateral damage as is scientifically possible

and

b) Only in the event of military action against our shores, not oil works, not agribusinesses, not any other corporate structure we might have control of, but the actual territory of Great Britain.

Then that is precisely the circumstance that MUST come to pass. There must never be again be a time, where we, the people of this great nation, should ever have to wonder at the motivations and involvements of our political establishment, their loyalties, their reasoning. Our word, and our nations defence, should be the ONLY two motivating factors in ANY action we decide to take. If our people see harm done to others, and cry out for something to be done, then it must, but short of that, the governments every action should be married to an instruction from our people, and not self motivated in the least.

They must be our mouthpiece, and our right arm, but never our masters, never our leaders. We must lead ourselves, finally, so that when our nation is under threat from some error, it is ours, not theirs. When our nations war dead return home, we must know that we sent them in OUR good faith, not the confused and financially motivated reasoning of those who foolishly think themselves our betters.

We must also know, that those who come against us are coming for all of us, rather than the fools whose meddling has set the world in a chaotic imbalance, has attracted nefarious attention from bogeymen our leaders made to control us with, has made us fearful where we should be prepared to laugh even in the face of death, like true Britons.

We should all, no matter where we may hail from, all of us, man woman and child, black, white and every other tone of skin, straight, gay, lesbian and every single non-heteronormative, Christian, Muslim, Jew and every other faith, have a voice that spoken as one drowns all else in the halls of power, blasts away every cobweb of deceit, smashes down every paper wall, destroys the ears and voices of the monied powers that wrestle us for control of our nation. We must have control of the nation for the people, by its people, and for that to happen, the political establishement must become our slaves, not our masters, and this time cannot come soon enough.

The FBI keeps an eye out for those people. As long as they just run self-help programs (like Tony Robbins) or exercise programs, the government leaves them alone. But the minute they get involved in politics and start gathering a strong following, they get sabotaged. Because the fact is, there are people out there who can inspire an audience with words, as well as win over the people who can give them the muscle they need to get things done. We're always on the verge of somebody like that popping up and setting the whole place on fire.

Well, I'm not trying to delve into the pit of despair. I'm only saying that it would be nice to have real words of discourse from real people. If the FBI, CIA, NSA, Illuminati have their own agendas, that's beyond the scope of my intent. There will always be haters. That will never change. I'm only trying to get the average person to think for him/her/itself. Power lies in the people - not in a three-letter agency.

Cheers!

Well, like the President in the OP's video, Kennedy held out for the greater good, despite the military buffoonery and pretty much succeeded, whereas in Dr Strangelove, the mad military, and the Kissinger type character of Dr Strangelove er, fecked up badly. Frankly, it's been pretty much like that since Kennedy died, and the mayhem began almost immediately, Yup!....and based on a lie to boot.

You are very correct. Perhaps the Age of Information should be renamed the Age of Entitlement. While it's easy for us older farts to remember the yester-years, this is the new generation. I don't disagree with everything of this era, but there are some fundamental truths that need to be sustained - truth being the number one. Of course, it's easier to return to the "old ways" and conduct business the way we used to, but at the end of the day, truth will prevail...often at the expense of the rest of us.

Yes, and you might hear that speech quoted in schools in the UK as a socio-economic, as much as a part of historical warfare subject. It's very tricky when the big guys beat up the little guys, and these last 30 years, the West has tore the arse out of it, with the Hawkish beating down on the little guys, as opposed to a need to help other countries out. It's become a routine to take over, and pretty much plunder.
