I was just told by my sister that I should just get rid of my dogs because they're holding me back. Yeah. That's really going to help me. They've only helped me through the worst of what I'm going through. Just get rid of them. Might as well jump off a bridge afterward, too.

Your dogs... Are "holding you back"?!

What's that supposed to mean, anyway?

Doesn't she know your dog walks in front of you?

I don't know. She was never a pet person. It really didn't help my mood any though.

The Last Itty Bitty Bit
The tantalising tune grew louder and louder as they navigated the winding halls, seeming to reach its peak as they at last stood in another chamber. Kaelci cringed inwardly as the shrill sounds reverberated about her, pierced her ears, pierced her mind, and focussed on remaining calm and centred.

Steady breaths in and steady breaths out, the music soon dulled and she could gaze about this new chamber with an unburdened mind, and softly, she gasped in amazement as she saw white and silver baubles decorating the fiery walls of red. Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of these glittering spheres danced within the light of the red fires. No other décor was evident, only a small ornate chest of silver that sat at the back of the room.

Curiosity and wonder abound, Kaelci stepped into the chamber and towards the fine chest.

Today’s Itty Bitty Bit!
The stone floor felt unnaturally smooth beneath Kaelci’s feet as she made her way towards the small silver chest. It sat at the back of the chamber, the red flames wavering gently, silver baubles glimmering, the intricate detailing upon the chest reflecting every shimmering movement.

Each step that she took, though silent, echoed dully within the chamber, and she found herself gliding rather than walking in an effort to prevent the unnerving sound from reverberating about her. The chamber was larger than it had first appeared and it took several long minutes for her to reach that which she desired, that which she felt had been calling to her, that silver chest she now at last stood before.

She gazed down at the chest in silence, admiring the elaborate engraving that was etched over the whole piece, lightly running a fingertip over each swirl and twirl that had long been carved into the item. The silver metal was cool beneath her fingertips, gaining warmth the longer her hand remained upon it, and for a moment she imagined she could smell the soft scent of lavender, perhaps a lingering trace of the long lost owner of this fine object.

“Young miss, if we could hurry this along…?”

Kaelci glanced up at Darien from the corner of her eye, slightly staggered by the unusual edginess that emanated from the normally easygoing Magister, before glancing back down towards the chest… her fingers lightly tracing the engraving once more before they at last opened the chest, her glimmering green eyes widening at what she saw resting within.

Inside the silver chest, upon a fine crimson fabric, sat a perfect crystal sphere and a tiny golden key. She reached down to retrieve the sphere, surprised to find that the small item held an unusual weight, and as she raised it to her eyes to peer deep within, a light snow began to fall inside the sphere’s depths. A vibrant green forest coated in glittering snow, sparkling snowflakes falling, a winding path snaking through the growth… before the vision disappeared and the sphere returned to its original transparency.

Peculiar… was this why she had been called? Was she destined to find this strange snowy forest? And what would that tiny key open? So many questions…

She gently placed the sphere back within the ornate chest and closed the lid, before lifting the chest and placing it in a hidden pocket of her magical robes, somehow unsurprised to find the chest now barely weighed an ounce even though the heavy sphere had been returned to its inner resting place.

A cold chill suddenly caused her to break out in goosebumps and Kaelci whipped around, alarmed as she felt Darien’s rage begin to resonate around and within her, startled as she saw the reason why…

Standing serenely by the doorway of this chamber stood that beautiful woman, long black hair flowing, silver robes swishing about her body with a mind of their own, pale blue eyes glaring, glinting with an unknown hunger… her old friend, her old mentor. Sita.

What's your dogs have to do with anything anyways? Makes no logic.

Looks like an ad hominem logical fallacy, but with dogs. Guess we could call it an Ad Canis logical fallacy.

Don't mind her. Give your dogs the love they deserve!

She means that if you didn't have the dogs, you could have had your cheap apartment by now. For those of us who don't have children especially, they are our children. She isn't an animal person and wouldn't understand the trauma. I suppose if Mark and I were about to be put on the streets I would have no choice, but as long as we have a choice, my cat stays. Though in the future when this cat dies, we can't have any more pets here. Well, cats or dogs for sure none of those.
