I was watching the preview of the new Dr. Who season and saw a commercial for this new tele series and well, here's the thread. It starts on BBCAmerica on Saturday for those interested.

I don't remember much from the books but I do remember the rain god and I'm totally psyched to see this. It's Adams and he was always great so this should be a bit of fun.

The Rain God comes from the Hitchhikers Guide Part IV.

I liked both books from DNA and his Dirk Gently.

I will be watching! The adverts have been going on all summer. I have the book out on the coffee table and will sit down and read tonight and tomorrow morning before the show.

I hope this is epic!

Yep, this show totally rocks.

"Sometimes when things happen, they don't happen".

Sounds like a line Hilary's folks would come up with( I hate Trump as much so please don't play the partisan line).

I just hope they keep the Samuel Taylor Coleridge storyline. May be a while as I remember it but crikey that was so cool.

I didn't realize it was based on Adams' work....definitely have to check this out now. I too saw a preview, just didn't realize the source material.

The books were good and radio 4 did a pretty good adaptation a few years ago so I would be suprised if the beeb did not do a good job of a series, I imagine his people have pretty strict control over what is allowed with his works.

So, I have watched Episode 1, twice, and Ep. 2, once (hehe).

I did not know that it was Elijah Wood at first! So that was pleasant surprise.

They get to swear! Yes! That is a good thing because when the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. I re-read first fifty or so pages just to get the "feel" back into me. Of course, in a book you can be a bit more cerebral. The show has made up for that by being a bit more "here is what you see! Now, you have to remember that while watching what you're seeing now" with, I hope, a pay off in the future.

Epi 2 adds more detail on what it is going on. And it got a bit strange! Which is good because my wonderful cable company dropped AMC so no TWD for me. And this show has blood, and cussing, which I did not even know I was missing from not watching zombies and people attacking Sherriff Grimes and co. from week to week.

Yeah for a new decent show to watch on Saturday nights!

Totally digging the guy that used to write speeches for Martin Sheen on The West Wing. The guy who is the only one who can do the eyelashes thing. Zimmerfield, maybe? Something like that.

Actually, I'm digging the whole thing. The assassin chick. Mighty hilarious, although rather ruthless. The FBI are totally worthless, just like in real life.

What's up with the dog and cat? Did that really happen?

Dammit, I need to go through my books which are stuck away and find this first book. It's been so long I just can't remember if this is anything close to the books.

"Just because you are playing a game doesn't mean you don't choose your moves".

Brilliant.

The knife to a gun fight mixed metaphor was awesome too!

The dog and the kitten. What I am getting is this Doctor Who-type thing where the consciousness of a human is being transferred into an animal (the bald guys with all the tats and energy weapons). I am thinking the kitten had a hammerhead shark transferred into it (which leads to the opening scene) but I will not speculate anymore. Just going to sit back and enjoy the ride!

The holistic assassin cracks me up! Killing everybody because eventually they will need it! Ah, British humour! I wonder why she is after Dirk?

The eyebrow gag is played perfectly. Both being the straight men of the joke.

Glad that somebody else is enjoying the ride!

A couple of episodes later, I respond with:

The dude playing Gordon Rimmer aka well, maybe I shouldn't give it away for those who haven't seen it. That voice, how he talks, is so very cool. So unusual. Helluva acting job from the guy who was Chief Tyrol on Battlestar Galactica.

This is a great show. The coolest show I've seen since Orphan Black came on the air. I'm sure there's some shows I've missed but this really does do Douglas Adams very well. So much I could say but haven't finished ep. 4 so I'll wait to say more.

Oh, BTW, everything is connected. Couldn't edit the last post to add this but damn, how things are connected. If only you could have lived my last few hours. Crikey, I live a very odd life.

"Jacket team GO!"

Totally digging Amanda, even with her malady she's willing to get into the fight. I get the weird bald guys now but the other weird guys, the 3 or four of them and then there's the crazy assassin paired with Ken.

I'm almost as clueless as when the show began.

"I always end up where I exactly need to be, despite the fact it's rarely where I intended to go".

ETA:

"I hope your not claustrophobic"

"No, I don't like coffee".

Don't get the joke but it's funny.

That quote explains a lot of my life.

Either no one has kept up on this thread or no one is watching the show. Seriously, the kitten is a BLANK(no spoilers).

How much cooler does it get than that?

Season two, episode two tonight, and much fun was had by all. Little response last year with this but what the hell, maybe someone is watching this lunacy.

I almost forgot I had this thread hanging out in the shadows so let's see if anyone is interested.
