Iraqi Army begins big offensive in Mosul to defeat ISIS for good – Map update
BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:10 P.M.) – Over the past 24 hours, the Iraqi Army has initiated a remarkable pincer offensive in the largely ISIS-held Old City neighborhood of Mosul, ultimately looking to cut the tiny Islamic State pocket in two by joining forces at the Al-Sa’ah Roundabout, a key junction in the heart of the densely populated district.

With rapid gains finally underway through the narrow streets of the Old City, Iraqi troops also captured around a dozen homemade rocket launchers and a makeshift field hospital where significant batches of pain killers were recovered:

Notably, recent government gains have secured large stretches of the main roads in the Old City; in turn, civilians are able to escape more easily through the humanitarian corridors that are vital to reduce collateral damage.

In a related event, two ISIS sleeper cells opened fire on police officers in the Al-Jazar district (liberated over six months ago) on the eastern bank of the Tigris River on Monday. However, the assailants were hunted down by shop owners and local residents who beat them to death before security forces managed to interfere.

Very very close. It certainly looking like a July timeline for full liberation, although the forces are pretty much already calling mission accomplished official.

This operation will be complete in matter of days. Government forces are clearing the last few blocks, fighting with snipers.

I just uploaded these videos from yesterday. I put it together from two clips on Haidar Sumeri twitter feed, and uploaded to youtube.

Driving through the ruins of Old Mosul and then a clash between Iraqi forces and ISIS in the Old City somewhere along the Tigris river bank.

These maniacs rebuilt the turret of a tank into a semi trailer in an effort to transport their fire power in a more discreet fashion. Not sure what type of tank they salvaged for this.

So there has been official declaration of full liberation, but it has come at a staggering cost. Mosul looks like it was ground zero for the apocalypse.


We thank the Iraqi people for their heavy sacrifice in liberating their lands from one of the most horrific scourges of our time, the global plague known as Daesh or commonly referred to as ISIS. There is still much and in Western Iraq to be taken back from them, but now is time to rebuild the city and give the citizens their lives back!

May God show mercy for all those who committed themselves to the cause over the course of the last nine months and made the ultimate sacrifices necessary to give this community back to the people. Farewell, this thread is finally done.

You've committed a lot of work to the thread Seen a lot of blood. It was going on and on even when it seemed that no one cares.
Just like the war.
Iraqis will long remember how it was to live under true sharia for a while. People will honor their freedoms more.

I appreciate that. It was a pet project for myself to be able to document a little bit as this battle raged on in real time. I thought about continuing to update with the progress they are making in rebuilding. One of their Universities is open again and tens of thousands of grade schoolers are able to get their education safely again. No victory is more sweet than the opportunity for children to be able to learn in a safe environment again.

There was no battle for Mosul. NATO so called "coalition" has not liberated Mosul from terrorists. Instead it has completely destroyed the city center while warning the terrorists and allowing them to escape, as reported earlier.
They will be taken care by Kalibr missiles ...
