The conflict in Syria is part of Washington's prime goal to impose global hegemony, President Bashar Assad told a Russian newspaper. Terrorists in Syria, he said, are being used by the US and its Gulf allies to assert control over the region, primarily to weaken Iran.

Syria was never an important Arab state, although Assad and his dad before him were bastards. If the US wanted to start a global hegemony then the US would have started somewhere else.
It's nice and easy to blame the US for all the wrongs in the world, but Assad is to blame for Syria. Certainly Russia's mouthpiece RT.com interviewing Assad is hardly going to blame anyone his own brutality.

I think it's a land grab for Israel when Syria is so fragmented it is no longer a country Israel will steal a large portion and boot out the occupants.
