If you are fairly young, ask your parents how it was during the Cold War days. Nuclear fallout shelters and regular exercises were a routine. And... nothing happened. Nuclear parity is the answer. There will be no winners in such war. Everyone understands it. Proxy war is far more safe (well, not for proxies); and it's been going on for decades, here and there. Yes, people and children die, towns get destroyed, but we, in a civilized World, are still enjoying life, right? Isn't it wicked?

Yes, I remember Khrushchev missile crisis as I`m a lot older than you may think. Yes I have lived the cold war times and am well aware no one will win a nuclear war. And of course they (world leaders) are aware of this too. But these are different times. I believe we live in a much more individual/selfish world were leaders don`t care so much about what`s beyond them.

....And there is also the missile defense systems to be tested

To even begin to describe the amount of contingencies and prevention mechanisms the USA has for a Nuclear War...It's not like nothings been invented from the time of the Nuke, and we're just sitting on our asses waiting for it to go off.

First off, we have (probably) the most advanced Spy network in the world, and not only is remotely causing a faulty launch sequence possible, we would -absolutely- know in advanced if nuclear systems were being activated. We also have NORAD.

Quantum Radar can literally detect anything now, we have missile systems, and QE blasted with particles can cause remote Nuclear reactions, like a 'Laserbeam' tipped with reactions, that can instantly detonate even just static Plutonium.

We have a ridiculous amount of private and Government Bunkers, and we even have Force-field technologies that can block shockwaves.

If ultimately, the world is doomed and Massive Nuclear Fallout is inevitable, it also is not unlikely secret labs with Doomsday-World-Ending caliber weapons might be used. Two possibilities already are a Quantum Bubble, and a Blackhole. It's fairly trivial knowledge humans can create a Blackhole at this point. This would destroy the entire planet in response to destruction of America in a Nuclear manner, it's own catastrophic deterrent to the Nuclear option. A Quantum Bubble is even more destructive and simple energy-wise to create, a single one has the potential to cause a 'cosmic earthquake' big enough to destroy the entire Universe.

People need to calm down a bit.

Neither Russia nor USA will go to war with each other, over Syria. It's just not going to happen. Syria is not that important to these two countries, so there's nothing to worry about

Seriously?

To me, it looks exactly the same. We still have USA funding terrorists, we still have nuclear threats, we still have nuclear exercises, we still have proxy wars...what exactly is changed?

It should just be kept in perspective that the USA can blow up the entire Universe, when Russia gets a large ego about their Nukes.

It really is a large difference. There's no amount of cave that can save you from that counter-attack. It would make me think twice about launching a Nuke.
