I've also made gifts over the years for various family members. All my nephews have crocheted throws.

My SIL used to crochet and make us all sorts of socks, hats and throws. She's make them in our favorite colors or to match a handbag. She'd make the throws in our favorite SEC team colors.
Mom would make this fantastic chocolate candy (had everything in it but the kitchen sink) that could really on be had once a year. She also made the most delicious strawberry jelly. Store bought jelly has nothing on homemade.

I suppose I should have learned to do all of those things!

You mean like THESE?

From reports, they're just as safe (and in some cases, safer) than the originals.

I strongly disagree with you on this.

And even more on the faked indian super cars made out of styrofoam. If you think a original porsche and a chinese knock off porsche can compete on the same level..You can´t deny decades of testing and developing and compare it with a cheap knock of copy. Nonetheless, my main point, you ignore it.

Uh-oh, someone's German engineering dander is up.

You gonna take that from him Ver? Check Terry's papers, I bet they are not in order.

That's Indian knock offs. The Chinese ones are a literal carbon copy of the originals. That includes safety and the way they're built.

Find road kill, boil and bleach said road kill, skull are awesome and expensive to buy, but free to find and clean up.
(and its fun and educational)

And also the materials and knowledge? A good portion of a porsches 911 price are the components are made for racing. You can take it from the street right to a race track and beat the # out of it and it´s made for that. I seriously doubt the competence and quality of those knock offs when it comes to blowing down a hill with 280km/h on the nuremburg ring.

If you show me 5 NCAP crash test where the carbon copy does same or better than the original and then show me test about the durability of the same cars, that is on the same level, I´ll buy into to thought that some knock offs are equal in quality. Before that, I trust the tests that are out there. Just because one car in one crash test was better than a toyota, it doesn´t make every copy good. Yet, there are so much disastrous crash tests out there, you might be alone with your opinion, when you ask professionals.

Why are you focusing purely on Porsche?

I'm guessing you didn't click the link and see all the OTHER cars there.

I did. Where does it mentoin safety??? It´s about the design, duh! Obfuscate much? There is not a single word about safety or even durability. I focus on porsche, because you came up with it.

It was just a link about the way the cars look.

And I never came up with Porsche. I came up with the porch 911.

You seem very defensive over something so small.

From the link, I like the CH Auto Lithia. It's the Audi R8 e-tron knock off and DAMN it looks nice in white.

Okay, I´ll give you a run down:

-You answered to my "killing" comment that chinese cars are as safe if not safer (this was a generalized statement).
-I said I don´t trust the safety
-You post a link about designs.

And we were talking about safety or were we not? Again, if you show me 5 NCAP crash tests where the chinese knock offs of the same models are safer and more durable, I´ll buy into that idea. If not, you have no evidence of your claim and you can post designs as long as you want, it doesn´t make your statement true. It has nothing to do with over defensive. I could take a corvette or viper as an example and still be of the opinion a cheap knock off of those cars, in almost any case will not perform on the same level when it comes to safety and durability. It has nothing to do because I´m german and porsche is a german car builder.

And my original point(that was on topic btw) was totally ignored by you.

You should go to the local craft fair's.....church bizarre .....green markets ......and even farmers markets ....which ever is in your town . Those vendors will have great gifts . And your supporting a local person put food on their table VS a corporate person buy their third house .

I´ve found that those things are good gifts. Often it´s high quality for a reasonable price, local and made with love. For example there is a small local booze store where you can fill your custom bottle (either brought by you or selected in the shop) directly from the barrel and the quality and quantity of sorts is staggering. Friendly shop owner, the time in the shop is nearly as much a pleasure than finally seeing someone is happy, and it has only less to do with the fact that you´re allowed to try out each barrel for taste, for free....

One year, I got on the website Etsy and contacted an artist to paint a few originals for members of my family. The paintings were less than 50 a piece and I had them framed for the same.

I've also given unique fossils, fossilized amber, meteorites as gifts.

I've also done historical gifts like a piece of the Berlin Wall etc.

There's only 1 problem.

I don't care enough about what I said to back it up with anything other than pretty pictures of pretty cars.
