Massachusetts State Police and the National Guard sent a helicopter, several vehicles and a handful of troopers to an elderly woman’s house to chop down one cannabis plant and haul it away in a pickup truck.

Margaret Holcomb, 81, grew a single marijuana plant in her garden, which she used to ease her glaucoma and arthritis ailments

The behavior of the police was questionable in other ways, Holcomb’s son, Tim, told the Gazette. He said he was told that as long as he did not demand that a warrant be provided to enter the property or otherwise escalate the situation, authorities would file no criminal charges.

some lawmakers are questioning whether an $18 million federal program to pull pot plants makes sense.

An 81 year old woman was growing a single marijuana plant for her glaucoma and arthritis. Apparently this single plant in an elderly woman's property warranted a raid from the State Police, complete with a military helicopter. If that wasn't bad enough, the State Police threatened the woman's son not to ask for a warrant to be provided.

They didn't obtain a warrant before mounting this huge operation? That's brave of them.

This is the kinda sh!t that makes me wonder if our police force and military troops really would fire upon our own citizens.

Wonder what Vegas has it at....2 to 1..?

I'm imagining some sort of winch with a big hook that slowly drops, with great dramatis personæ, from the helicopter to snatch up the pot plant as the cops cover grandma with Gatling guns.

*shrug*

Pppssshhh.....that 81yo woman was probably a drug runner. How dare she grow a plant to for medicinal purposes.

I'm guessing that she was a drug kingpin and used that single plant as a coverup.

Glad we are are getting these 81 year old drug lords locked up. If they hadn't sent in choppers, she might have grown several 4rijuana plants.

There are enough that would without a second thought. Have no doubts. The rest would do nothing for fear of being shot themselves. Theres so few good people with balls in leadership positions anymore that its going to keep rotting. Thats what our nation is doing, rotting. From corrupt laws, corrupt leaders, and a public gorging itself on high fructose media, becoming walking douhballs, asking to be victimized by unscrupulous power hungry charlatans.

Tax dollars hard at work! I wonder how bad this traumatized this poor woman? If she dies in the near future, I hope there is a follow-up on this story. I hope she lives and can get the medicine she needs (through the proper legal channels).

I do understand that the officer who busted her could have had one good reason to do it. If she wasn't following the State law for medical cannabis, then it could have invited prosecution from higher authorities at some point. In the long run, the cop may have prevented bigger problems with the State's medical marijuana law (authorities saying that "the State allows people not to follow the law and register as a cardholder, etc.).

I still do not think that she should be sentenced. If she gets a Jury of her peers, it could be risky for her since many people in her age group are strongly brainwashed against the plant being medicine. I hope all charges are dropped by the officer in court, and it would still serve to protect the law that the State made.

Oooookay, so upon reading into this further, this poor woman was part of a greater search and raid in her area. Where the chopper was identifying plants, and relaying that info to police on the ground. Makes more sense now.

It still might be unlawful surveillance, but I honestly don't know Mass. law.

Did anyone else notice that the picture of the helicopter has Cleveland police on the tail?

It also said this.

"State police spokesman David Procopio told the Gazette that authorities also seized 43 plants from other properties during the raid. The largest of these seizures involved 20 plants, while several properties netted only two plants each. None of the property owners were charged, Procopio said."

The raid involved more than one old lady. It's still stupid,

"Land of the free" or so they say!

Utterly disgusting Orwellian world we live in when the State uses this kind of force against an elderly woman.

Murica!

Law enforcement is now a military spectator sport, what a sight this must of been, National Guard?
Oh yeah....Massachusetts.

Reminds me of that false flag bombing and lock-down in Boston, I wonder if this neighborhood had automatic weapons pointed at them too? Not much of a friendly place up there with military and police mobilization. If you wanna experience martial law, move to Massachusetts.

The article says they used a military helicopter, but shows a photo of a police helicopter...

What's scary is they were able to spot a single plant from a helicopter.

Yes.

Eventually the funding will dry up though.

What a long strange trip it's being.

Wow...I was actually being sarcastic about the flyovers...they must have had to practically land in her yard just to see one measly plant. Unreal. And they're getting funding for this.
