I would get a second opinion. There are chiropractors that use crystals to decide what you are allergic to. Many of these guys are just charlatans. It sounds to me like your chiropractor is keeping things ambiguous hoping for an extended cash cow in you, and with little regard for your health and well being. You need to see a spine specialist, like an actual Doctor. You really do.

Just a little blunt talk here. If you are intent on making a mere bulging disk more serious than it actually is, you go ahead and find a surgeon that will cut on you and fluck you up for life. It's your body.

I am by no means considering surgery my uncle had one years ago that came with a staph infection and i believe he is worse now than before the surgery. I will go to my doctor or someone else i see more fit. My chiropractor hasnt tried doing any voodoo just stretches, two xrays. I very much like him my insurance covers it and the elctro therapy feels awesome. I think he's more physical fitness than witch craft, Monday will be my third day we havent burned any sage yet

Thanks everyone for the advice im very sorry to hear the pain others have gone through i know i do not compare with some of you . I plan on going to my doctor soon to hear her opinion i still am hurting quite a bit i dont want to anger my back anymore with exercise yet. I definitely think a anti inflammatory would help especially right now. I do have something going on with a nerve as ive lost some sensation in my left leg foot. I do not wish to be fighting this for years to come i hope once i feel up to it that exercising regularly will help me beat this battle. Thank you all again for great information and i wish you all well.

The numbness is from your disk putting pressure on the nerves in your spine. It can also cause neuropathy which feels like the tingling you get when your foot is asleep. It can also get more painful with a needle or stabbing sensation combined with a burning/fire sensation.

As far as exercise go, I wouldn't be trying to go to the gym just yet (unless you have access to a pool) but while you're at home don't just sit/lay down all the time. Make yourself get up regularly and just make a lap through your house. Even that little bit will help keep your joints fluid. Having this kind of back problem can lead to many other issues if you don't stay moving. I'm living proof of this. Then once you're feeling a bit better get into an exercise routine.

If your dr sends you to physical therapy they will recommend what exercises will be best for you and your situation. Like I said in my first post, it's hard to give specific advice because this can affect everyone differently.

As for medications I have been through them all and they're poison. Many will make your body addicted. If you're in a medical MJ state you may want to check into that option. I've found it way more helpful that all the meds they've pushed. Plus it's not destroying my liver and kidneys.

I really hope this is only a minor setback for you and that with the right combo of treatment you will get past this and on with your life... it IS possible

Lol I was actually just about to post a thread like this one just now, you see I like this sport called Powerlifting. about 2 months ago I was trying to deadlift 350 lbs and felt a tug on my back, turns out I herniated my disc in the L5-S1 area and have a 3.5 mm protrusion sucked at first honestly still have numb legs, what really helps is doing core exercises I would recommend you do planks the stronger your core the better the pain. I don't feel as bad now and I have been doing things I should not. Whatever you do don't stop working out it gets worse. as soon as you finish doing your work outs do some stretches then ice it that is what has been working for me I also heard that swimming is good to strengthen your core but I'm a terrible swimmer so have not done that

I forgot to say, it depends everyone is different but it is a injury that take patience. do not jump into surgery right away give it at least 3 months honestly if it does not get any better then try other things. it's just not something that you'll wake up one day and be all better like a cold but it isn't the end of the world. I know some people with 2 + herniated discs that are still lifting over 500 lbs, so just learn to your body all over again don't bend your back lift with your legs don't twist over to get things. mine is pushing into both sides so both my legs are pretty numb, just take it day by day avoid sitting for more than 1 hr you put more strain on your discs
