The BBC are at it again.

This time we are going to run out of doctors.

About a quarter of the medical workforce is trained outside the UK, but the impact of Brexit and a global shortage of doctors could make it harder to recruit so many in the future.

BBC BS

Here is a novel idea............Just let doctors and nurses immigrate anyway.

FFS its not rocket science. Reduced immigration does not mean stopping immigration.
Its pretty easy to change visa laws to allow qualified doctors and nurses around the world to come to the UK still.

What do we pay these piss heads in parliment and there dumbarse thinktanks for?
All they do is come up with problems with easy solutions!

Its easy:

Immigration officer gets two visa applications:
1) A doctor ftom Australia
2) manual laberor from poland.

Immigration officers useles entry stand on person 1 and deny stamp on person 2.

All that needed is a Entry and deny stamp and a immigration officer that can bloody read, problem solved!

Well they also announced that they are increasing the spaces in medical schools by 25%.

So this means in about 7-8 years the UK will have more doctors, which with the way things are going, will be about the time the UK leaves Europe.

Again its not rocket science.

Need doctors = train more doctors.

The problem is the government is currently blocking nurses from outside the EU immigrating into the UK because they don't earn enough to meet the ridiculously high earnings threshold to stay in the UK.

Once hard Brexit happens, all of the nurses here from the EU will also be blocked from remaining here. Leading to a collapse of the NHS, and they'll say they have to privatise it to 'save it'.

I think it's pretty clear one driving goal of the Brexit campaign has been to open the door to the Tories finally being able to destroy the NHS.

i work within Healthcare recruitment and the problem you will see is less doctors naturally, but then these doctors will be over worked to compensate for the lack of doctors to the point they will probably just quit and do another job.

i voted brexit so i understand the scaremongering but we are seeing this with nurses now. They are leaving the NHS and comming onto agencies to get them work within other healthcare enviroments such as care homes. Again they getting over burdend with hours due to the lack of nurses.

The philippines alone have thousands of trained nurses that would be happy to move to the UK.

All the idiots in government have to do is created a new Visa requirement allowing trained nurses entry.

I agree.

Take people you need and can be a plus for the country.

Train more people too for health care.

Hahahaha paranoid much? Do you honestly think the Tories want to destory the NHS?
The Tories want power, to stay in power they know us Brits love the NHS - ergo, they will do everything in their power to not destroy it. This is Tory Party doctrine 101, it is basic stuff. I am thinking you read too much Socialist Worker..........

Hey Gortex,

You now me and you disagreed on Brexit (and i still think we won't really start to see any possible effects for another year or two yet) but i am fully with you on this issue.

The Junior Doctors have been annoying me anyway over this contract (i have read one, it is clearly only about money despite the protests as the contract actually offers much better working practices but doesn't guarantee as many working hours) - and now they want to argue about this?

Hunt is correct here - it costs around £240'000 to train a doctor and this will guarantee they stay in the NHS for at least 4 years. Surely that is the least they owe the nation that pays for their training? And if they don't like it, fu*! off somewhere else and pay back the money you owe. And by the way, you can't board your plane until you have settled the account.

Holy Crap! I just looked at what an RN makes in the UK!
A 20 year RN only make about $23,000 and they start off at $17,000. That's ridiculous! My ex wife is a 20+ year RN and makes about 80k per year. That's in a fairly small hospital, not in a large city like Chicago or New York. I can't see the UK getting good nurses, unless they give a sharp pay raise. No one is going to go from $80,000 a year or more, to $23,000 and who can blame them?

Maybe this wouldn't be such a problem if the Tories hadn't spent the last 6 years demolishing the health service and vandalising the education system.

Education reform is needed. Offer incentives to take, how should I put this, more useful subjects? Such as engineering, medical studies, studies in the sciences, stuff like that. I did History I can tell you that isn't particularly useful.

Still offer all subjects, some people (like me) go to university not for career purposes but because of an interest in the subject, but offer incentives for the career-focused ones to take the ones we need people to be taking.

Although eliminating all funding for gender studies and other such nonsense probably wouldn't be a bad idea either...

Or how about we just go back to becoming a nurse straight from school

and learning the job from the bottom up (LOL!! no pun intended)

There were very good dedicated compassionate nurses at the time *nursing*

was taught on the job .... and a degree wasnt a requirement to becoming

a nurse!

Only a idiot cant see that its a non-issue.

One can halt immigration of unskilled labour while allowing skilled labour.

Its not rocket science.

I Know its changed .... But change is not always for the better.

Every woman who becomes a mother, or looks after elderly parents has

nursing 'skills', learned as they go along ... and not all of them are 'dumb' or

have degrees.

For the ordinary man in the street it's got absolutely nothing to do with workers from anywhere coming here to work. This was the main lie that was put forward by the Brexiteers. What you are doing is just downright confusing the issue. I'll make it perfectly clear again.
The majority of people are not bothered by a few thousand coming here to work. What they are bothered about and are up in arms about is the hundreds of thousands of so called immigrants and refugees that are coming here with absolutely no intentions of working but claiming on the system. THOSE are the migrants that people are against. As for those coming here to work and are given jobs it's no different that an Irishman coming from Ireland and be given a job. No slight on the Irish I just used them as an example.
