I have no doubt that one day a super volcano or asteroid, or pole shift or super earthquake is going to effect mankind again.

Ancient historical records in the form of myths, legends, tales, stories, ALL elude to this happening multiple times. The Chinese ancient writings, for example, record accounts of the sun setting opposite of what it normally does today...twice.
