This is just an opinion shared by few. "Cutural relativism" is....cutural relativism. Taking your arguments to the limit, would you consider any preference to be a form of racism? For example, I will not listen to the misogynistic doggerel called "rap." This means that I reject this aspect of "culture" and prefer noise from another culture which is superior noise.

This does not surprise me.

It is sad that humans are so divided and so full of hate and resentment and trauma that literally the only thing that could possibly unite us would be a hostile extraterrestrial invasion.

Were so far gone that is the only thing that could possibly bring us together.

Our future us so bleak that things cannot possibly get better until WW3 is long over, there is an extinction level event, or the aforementioned extraterrestrial invasion occurs.

Or maybe Jesus Christ truly will come back.......

You underestimate human nature.

Some people would immediately seek to ally themselves with the invaders. Others would try to involve the aliens as allies in their own wars against other humans. Many more would welcome them humbly and then try to sell them stuff. And still others, of course, would take up arms against them and fight to the death — their own death, most likely.

Listen, mate: if the incoming aliens actually ate people, there would be human chefs volunteering to prepare the dishes. Have you forgotten that white slaveowners kept order and dispensed punishment on their plantations with the help fo black foremen and trusties?

I am, I turn 30 this month. I have only just begun to get serious about life. Fortunately I recognize how crucial it is that I quit messing up and become the man I am meant to be.

Now that you mention it I realize you are correct, not even the alien invasion would unite us. Come to think of it, we never really have been truly united. It is not in our nature.

Is such a thing even possible? If so what would bring people together? I can't think of anything short of some divine spiritual intervention.

Actually, it is in our nature to unite and cooperate, just as it is in our nature to seek our own advantage at the expense of our fellows. Which part of our nature comes uppermost depends on the circumstances and the relationships existing between the people involved at the time.

This is perfectly normal and natural. We don’t have to beat up on ourselves for being human.

Again, it depends on the circumstances. Circumstances brought the Filipinos together to overthrow the dictator Marcos. Circumstances brought nineteenth-century British public opinion together to compass the abolition of slavery, and from Britain it spread to the rest of the world. Circumstances also brought the German people together to put Adolf Hitler in power.

Of course it is possible. But is it desirable? Again, it depends on the circumstances. A world in which everyone thinks and acts the same way is the world of a totalitarian utopianist.

There is really nothing wrong with the human race, you know. And the only thing that’s wrong with the world is that human activity is changing the environment to the detriment of humanity’s own survival. But in this we are no different from any other animal; it is natural for animal populations to increase until they outgrow the available resources, after which the population crashes and, in extreme cases, the species goes extinct.

Unfortunately, the worldwide range of our species means that we’ll take a lot of the planet with us when we go.

Some people think that, because humans are conscious, reasoning beings, we should be able to prevent this. Well, maybe.
