I don't care about stars or flags. Alot of the stuff u say many wouldn't agree with. I say it because that is the point of this site. Sometimes I change some minds, sometimes someone changes mine. It's a beautiful thing recognizing someone can make you more intelligent.

I never recommended removing posting rights, that would obviously exist, just how many things you can "agree" with.

So we wouldn't be allowed to agree with more than one person/day.

The purpose of the "stars" (as I understand it) is to limit the weight of bandwidth with posts that say, "I agree with you".

That's why stars were developed in the first place.

It saves server space and provides a quick acknowledgement.

and that can be scaled.

you obviously would have no restriction.

all i'm suggesting is a checkpoint for new guys/gals.

newbie can make 30 accounts, flag them all and then my whole idea is moot, it was just an idea.

It got you all thinking though.

anyone with a proper intellectual mind.

Why would a "proper intellectual mind" waste time policing how many stars and flags an individual member uses in a day? Most people stop placing importance on receiving stars when they graduate kindergarten, where they actually mean something.

If you don't care for the "clickbait" threads, instead of calling for the censorship of everyone else on the site, you might want to try not actually clicking on them. But if you do, you realize you're not obligated to join the discussion, right? You can simply find a different thread and go to that one instead.

You'd have the freedom to star as many people as you wanted, but I wouldn't be able to.

I'm always going to default towards freedom, not censorship.

I know that may not be very "intellectual", but that's how I roll.

It should just be monopoly style. You post on someone's thread, be prepared to pay 14 stars for 'rent.'

except you, who felt so compelled that you had to type a response.

I think people place value on stars and flags and want that "value" redistributed".

You sir, are the type of person that phones the local authorities because their neighbours hedge needs cut.

Im also going to assume you have phoned the fire service because you can smell the smoke from a neighbours barbecue and are so enraged that someone else has a social life and friends that you feel the urgent need to put a stop to it immediately.

You're personality, which reflects in your OP is why you are unpopular, this is not someone else's fault.....

Are you qualified? Prove it.

I was going to craft a reasonable reply before I read the rest of the thread and realised the OP is being nothing more than rude and condescending to anyone who dares to disagree with him/her/it.

Can't stand people like that.

so does that mean stars and flags are bad?

i thought they were an approval system, though i cannot flag yet

Oh, I think you lot are just lazy.

At the moment you can star and flag away with just the touch of a button, but if you were restricted to only one or two flags to distribute each day you'd have to put a bit of thought into it.

Think carefully of how you might benefit from the discipline of having to carefully weigh and assess each post and thread you read.

Of course you'd need a pencil and paper handy to jot down each contribution that you might deem worthy of your daily star and flag. Then, at the end of the day you could read them all over again in order to pick the winner.

Stop to think, for a moment, how much the quality of ATS would improve as we all strove to merit and distribute those scarce and coveted stars and flags.

Think how little else we'd have time for - fun for instance - as we reached for those giddy heights of self improvement and discernment.

Think how character building this exercise would be and all by taking the simple measure of reducing our stock of stars and flags.

Rise to the challenge ATSers - no more whining - it's for your own good.
