The Adjustment Bureau is my favorite romantic film. Is it a romantic film? Since it features a romance from beginning to end, I believe it is. The fact that it's also science fiction is the reason it's my favorite. Most romantic films seem to be too corny and boring for my tastes.

True Romance, it's everything a guy could want in a love story.

"Wuthering Heights" the old one with Lawrence Olivier. "Cathy, Cathy..." I visited the moors on a trip to England was totally overwhelmed. Still am. First saw it as a 9 year old with my mother-still, 50 years later completely bawl.

I've always liked Educating Rita (Julie Walters and Michael Caine).

It's the same kind of theme as Pygmalion/My Fair Lady.

Older, well educated guy tutoring younger, less well educated woman in some intellectual pursuit that is designed to allow her to improve her social class...while the subtext running through it is that a romance starts to blossom, and they both begin to fall for each other.

But what ends up happening is that it's the guy who ends up more smitten than the girl. The age-old tragedy of unrequited love. The irony of the stronger, wiser man becoming, in the end, the weaker, needier, more pathetic figure.

I think it's intriguing. But it's also often too painful to watch.

The original or the remake? I think the original had a more romantic appeal to it....

I'm a purist so I would always go with the original.
