Okay so, first of all, this is not my first thread of this type, I have actually made a thread about a weird sighting I had back in December last year, but it happened again today.

Also, I'm putting this on the UFOs forum because to me it was exactly that, a flying object which I was unable to identify.

It happened about an hour ago, 18:55 PM local time (I live in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). I was going to close the windows on my home and stopped to take a look at the beautiful starry night we're having here, when I noticed an extremely bright, white-ish yellow light originating in the Northwest and heading to the Southeast. Now I'm used to seeing satellites every once in a while and their light is always very faint, like that of a far away star. This one however was as bright as that of a plane when it's heading your direction, only a bit dimmer. It looked like a slightly brighter Venus sort of. It's speed was very much like that of a satellite as well. It kept heading Southeast making a slight curve to the South, both it's speed and brightness constant. It stayed like that for about (what felt like) two minutes, but as it approached the Southeast it suddenly started dimming really fast and in about 20 seconds it completely disappeared in the sky. Just like that, it felt as if it (sorry for my lack of vocabulary) started heading off to space, like it started getting higher and higher and in about 20 seconds it went from being extremely bright to vanished. It was really sudden. I kept watching to see if it would reappear but it didn't.

That was about it, hopefully now someone here can help me identify what that was

It was dropping lower, not going higher.

Makes sense too. I just thought it could be that it was burning up too. Any ideas on what it was though?

Unfortunately I can't say what it is. I saw it a few years ago heading that same way to a test range.

I just checked an ISS tracker and it went over Rio de Janeiro at 6:42pm on the same path, possibly the ISS?

Maybe the ISS?

Possibly to be a special service plain. Or you've just experienced Mandela defect and the light was not light but darkness. I don't understand it to be honest, just yogi, kangaroos and scientists at LHC can explain you.

Do you mean that in the sense that you know what it is and can't tell me, or that you can't tell me because you don't know?

a reply to: violetly

I don't think I've ever seen the ISS before, so I can't tell. Is it as bright as I'm describing?

I think it is, I only saw it for the first time a few weeks ago myself and was surprised how bright/low it seemed! I didn't figure out what it was until I checked online, dimmed out of sight for me before going over the horizon too.

ETA: The ISS will go over your area again at about 4:36 am if you want to stay up to compare sightings

I would say the wording of I can't tell you implies there is knowledge that can't be shared.

I know what it is and can't tell you. It has been mistaken for the ISS, but it's not.

I'm not a native english speaker, so it was kind of confusing to me. I figured it'd be better to ask just to make sure, though

So, I searched for some videos of the ISS being sighted from the earth (www.youtube.com... -www.youtube.com... - www.youtube.com...) but, maybe it's because of the videos quality, but they don't look nearly as bright as what I saw. Can you confirm that what you saw was brighter than what's shown on these videos?

Edit: a reply to: Zaphod58

Thanks for letting me know, Zaphod58!

Yes, much brighter in person but the magnitude of brightness depends on the sun's position I think. Actually, I mentioned it going over Rio de Janeiro again at 4:36am but it will be a much dimmer mag -0.3, at 6:42pm it was mag -3.0

ETA: I found "Venus varies in brightness generally from magnitude -4.5 to -3.7". I can't say I'm familiar with Venus' brightness so it could have been something else if it really was brighter than Venus

Will it ever go public? From black to grey? Now I'm curious.
All i could think is that it was the Boeing X-37.

I doubt it. If it does then it will be many years.

I saw it in the early days. I keep watching for it but haven't seen it since. I really want to see it again. You are lucky to have caught it.

May I ask how long ago the early days were? Also, does it have something to do with Brazil? Otherwise why would it be over our airspace?

Edit: By the way, I understand that this is not something you're really supposed to talk about, so it's okay if you can't answer any of these questions.

It was about 6 or 7 years ago now. They travel to various areas and pass over Brazil and other countries. Just passing by.

Oh, I see. Are there any other details that you can tell me about? Also does it have something to do with the ISS, considering it passed by about 15 minutes after the ISS over here, or was it just coincidence?
