Went camping for a couple days in a state forest in my area,

The weather was beautiful, had a great site, no neighbors right next to us.

Saw a couple of shooting stars.

Only strange thing was being awoken at about 3:00 to sounds like someone was playing a flute. I heard it twice and thought I must be dreaming. The third time I sat straight up, reached for my weapon, and called out to my sister in the next tent. She didn't wake up. Needless to say I layed in silence for what seemed like an eternity until I convinced myself that some kid must have brought a recorder and decided to play it.

The music was beautiful, and eery at the same time.

I'm home now and exhausted.

Has anybody experienced anything like this while camping?

Which state forest were you at? There's been a ton of odd stories come out of state parks.

I hear music a lot that doesn't actually exist. The majority of the time it happens is late at night/ early morning between 1-5am. Its bizarre. Sometimes I hear laughter and voices almost like I'm in a party atmosphere.

So maybe it was some weird thing that happened while you were camping

Or maybe some of us have brains that like to play games on occasion. I'm not sure!

I'm glad you're okay however!

3:00 AM seems to be a really popular time for strange stories.

Thank you. I've never had that happen before and I thought I am not acknowledging this. I'm not going to lie, didn't get much sleep after that though.

Another strange thing that happened is my ex called me which is rare. He was crying, and sounded upset.
He wanted to know if my son was alright. Apparently my sons phone dialed him at 2:30am. The phone was locked in the jeep.

This also happened on the same night

LAst Saturday night / Sunday morn at about 2:30 I was woke up by a party about a quarter mile away. Sounded like about 20 people. Suddenly they broke into some school song and all went silent after that. Strange world. We went looking for the spot but didn't find anything.

I don't know if you have ever heard of the show "finding bigfoot" or something along those lines, but they came out to my local state park, which I live about 10 minutes from and did some sort of "investigation" out there. There was a thread a while back about the army and the smokies or rockies ( can't remember which one) in which they were supposedly protecting something, but it was pretty interesting you should try finding it.

Were you camping too?

I remembered thinking why aren't the dogs barking; there were a few in my vicinity. I only heard one little yappy dog bark once.

My family had that experience while camping in central Texas a few decades ago. It was a flute. Charming. And you grabbed your "weapon?" Strange response. Now, if instead, it was a Sasquatch grunting....

I grabbed my weapon because I had a bad experience in the woods once, not this place.

Just because it sounds pretty and playful doesn't mean it plays nice, I learned that lesson a long time ago!

For lack of a better term, "Ghost music" is usually fleeting like in and out audible range. if this was clear and steady then probably someone nearby. You brought a 'flute' (weapon), should of played that twice and see what happened.

(insert haunting Flute music) KTOW, KTOW (Echos in the silence).

Nighty, night.

Hi!
Once many years ago I heard a flute playing in the wee hours as well. I do believe it was 3 am also but can't remember for sure. I wasn't camping but heard this ethereal 'floating' music outside my window! At the time there were no houses around us and we were pretty secluded. I had been reading a lot about portals and elven things so naturally assumed it was my mind playing tricks on me, but then I heard it a 2nd night! I went outside both nights (probably a dumb move) but never saw or heard anything else. It was really beautiful and I can see how someone may be entranced into wandering into a fairy realm.

Okay, hatchet, lol. Ethereal music, even voices or other activity is sometime reported like turning the dial on a radio where the signal comes in, fades, comes in. Like that. It may even sound like through water (warbly) if that makes any sense. Sorry I don't have link. Just my experience. Its as though the rip between here and the 'after' opens and closes so the sound 'comes and goes'.
