Deshaun Watson: Dual-threat is ‘code word’ for black quarterback

Yep ... you read that headline correct.

The Clemson QB spouted that bit of "wisdom" in a recent interview.

Speaking with Matt Hayes of Bleacher Report, Watson discussed a number of things, including the “dual-threat quarterback” term that he views as a “code word” that means black quarterback.

I'm not sure what angle to take here. I could point out that it's racist of Deshaun to think that white men can't run ... or maybe he thinks they can't throw? I guess his reason is that he sees a bunch of white QBs in the NFL and they're all mostly pocket passers, but I have to wonder where he's been for like ... all of football history if he hasn't noticed that a lot of really great QBs are "dual threat" which simply means that they can hurt you by running or by throwing?

Fran Tarkenton anyone?

Maybe he's missed the reality that QBs in the NFL mysteriously become pocket passers because NFL defenses tend to kill you? Look at what happened to RGIII, a stellar dual threat QB coming out of college. He got destroyed trying to play that game on the NFL. But in college, offenses are more wide open and most college QBs will make use of any skill they have making them mostly dual threat, not matter their color.

What kind of a world do we live in where we are so trained to see things through the prism of race that an idiot could make a comment like this kid did?

That is what he felt. He explained it fairly clearly. I don't see a whole lot of 'we' saying that.

Thing is that there have been dual threat QBs for longer than there have been black QBs because it used to that with racial prejudices being what they were the kids who would have played QB and were black were pushed into being WR because it was though they would not be intellectually capable of being QB.

So, his "feelings" are 180 degrees wrong.

He was, but then in the NFL, he quickly became no threat at all, so he turned pink.
